JOB DESIGNATION:
The Prototype CNC Programmer Sr, under limited supervision performs and provides specialized machining capabilities to engineering and manufacturing engineering. Provides technical assistance and leadership to tool shop associates. Adheres to and supports safety policy and procedures.

The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled CNC Programmer, Sr with extensive experience in CNC programming, machining processes, and quality standards. They should possess a strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem solving. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to safety and quality are essential for success in this role.
JOB CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interface with engineers for prototype parts to support in-house R and D development and Qual programs. Support tooling for test rigs/fixtures to support testing.
- Interface with Manufacturing Engineers and tool designers to fabricate and support production requirements.
- Provides constructive feedback to customers to improve and simplify designs.
- Prioritize and coordinate jobs within tool shop.
- Direct tool shop machinists for set-up and execution for CNC operations.
- Ensure quality of finish and tolerances in machined components.
- Program CNC Lathes and Mills using Mastercam Software.
- Set-up and execute complex CNC equipment in accordance with company policy and safety procedures.
- Installs, maintains, and operates a variety of machining tools including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, etc.
- Diagnoses problems, disassembles, determines extent of repair necessary and/or feasibility of repairs, refits or replaces worn or defective parts and reassembles.
- Makes ordinary replacements of new parts and/or complete new assemblies and selects materials, plans and performs machining operations on new or replacement parts.
- Works to specifications, from both oral and written instructions, sketches, blueprints, engineering drawings and manuals with little supervision.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work overtime and weekends, variable schedule(s) and additional hours as necessary.
Education: A Secondary Certificate/High School Diploma and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectations.
Preferred: Post-secondary degree in related field.
Certifications: Vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field.
Years Experience: 7+ years of relevant experience.
Skills:
- Experience in semi-repetitive specialized machine operations.
- Strong experience in Lathe and 3-1/2 axis Milling machining tools.
- Computer skills in Mastercam and Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel required.
- Solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerances required.
- Ability to use hand tools and machinery.
- Able to follow instructions, sketches, blueprints, engineering drawings and manuals.
- Capable of problem-solving: Exercises judgment, based on previous experience, practices and precedents, to identify and solve problems that arise with little or no precedent.
- Effective oral and written communication.
