Job Title: Electrical Systems Engineer

Reports to: VP of Engineering


Position Summary

The Electrical Systems Engineer will be responsible for the development and support of leading-edge particle characterization instrumentation. The ideal candidate has a strong background in both analog and digital design using discrete electronics and integrating FPGA, and microcontrollers. A desire to learn and apply physical chemistry and/or material science to ensure product development aligns with end user applications is required. The position will be based out of Nashua, NH.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with sales and staff scientists to gain an in-depth understanding of end user applications, and propose innovative solutions to upgrade and advance the development of particle size and characterization instruments
  • Lead the electro-optical systems design process by gathering and documenting design requirements, executing test and validation plans, and following through to release product to manufacturing.
  • Design, prototype, and test digital and analog systems, components, and circuits including but not limited to closed loop servomotor control, stepper motors, avalanche photodiode (APD) modules, and Class IIIb lasers.
  • Create reliability testing plans to assess MTB(x) of components and equipment
  • Evaluate failed or returned products with repair technicians to determine root cause, propose and implement corrective and preventative measures
  • Utilize Silicon Expert to evaluate and mitigate component obsolescence, and single sourcing risks
  • Other duties as assigned


Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering with a preference for system level design and integration
  • Knowledge of dynamic light scattering (DLS) and electrophoretic light scattering (ELS) principles
  • Experience translating marketing requirements into engineering specifications taking into consideration all DFx (Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Reliability) disciplines.
  • Management of project schedule, product cost, and cross functional resources including offshore team members
  • 7+ years of working experience with integrated schematic capture and board for single and multilayer PCBs in Altium (Preferred) or PADS
  • Writing cohesive validation and verification plans and supporting documentation
  • Ability to work independently
