Themed Entertainment Principal Designer

Pasadena, California

Adirondack Studios (ADKS) is hiring for our growing Design department and is looking for individuals with experience in design and fabrication for entertainment environments who have a track record of taking ownership and delivering. Adirondack Studios is looking for an experienced candidate with proven design and management experience to serve an existing project on behalf of a key client. The role will entail working directly with an experienced ADKS project team as well as the client team on the successful execution of the project design and production goals including delivery of the work to client expectations as well as project budget and schedule goals over the course of approximately 2 years.

Desired skills and expertise:

  1. Principal Designer fulfills project requirements by providing technical and professional design deliverables including but not limited to design drawings, renderings, 3D models, narratives, sketches, schematics, shop drawings, engineering documentation and as-built documentation as required.
  2. Serve as the primary driver of design, ensuring that all design aspects of the project move forward through its initial stages and into fabrication and delivery.
  3. Development, implementation and oversight of client design intent including ongoing interface, problem solving, and collaboration to find solutions within existing project budgets and schedules.
  4. Demonstrate leadership skills, experience working with designers, and require a strong understanding of other areas of production.
  5. Promote the concept of quality control within the organization and its subcontractors.
  6. Direct client interface will be required. Serve as a design liaison between ADKS and respective client on all aspects of design.
  7. Represent Adirondack Studios and its commitment to producing excellent products and service.
  8. Familiarity with theatrical fabrication methods and materials as a builder, installer, and/or designer including an ability to read and understand design drawings.
  9. Strong spatial design skills including competency with industry design and collaboration software. AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit and Navisworks are required.
  10. Past employment as leadership in themed entertainment is expected.
  11. Produce and deliver designs as outlined in the contracted scope of work.
  12. Meet milestone dates in completing contracted scope of work.
  13. Design to budget acumen and assist in the estimating effort, advising methodology.
  14. Maintain project design documentation, ensuring that the current version is available to all.
  15. Work collaboratively with the technical and creative design teams, third party engineers, ADKS production and Project Management, clients, and vendors in the successful delivery of scope of work.
  16. Experience working in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  17. Strong visual, verbal, and written communication skills are required.
  18. Travel for company business as required.
