PRIMARY FUNCTION
This role is responsible for providing hands- on technical support primarily in the Vinyl department; supports other departments as needed. Leads activities to continuously improve methods and procedures used in vinyl siding, skirting, and accessory manufacturing.
REPORTS TO: Plant Manager
DIRECT SUPERVISION : May fill in for Manufacturing Supervisors on an interim basis.
May provide management oversight as needed.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
• Identifies, justifies and implements methods and procedures to reduce manufacturing costs, improve processes and product reliability, enhance process capability and provide greater utilization of labor and materials.
• Drives the troubleshooting efforts of process issues in the Vinyl department. Assesses and resolves manufacturing deficiencies. Leads the problem resolution activities by performing process analysis and validation. Applies process excellence tools in conducting root cause analysis of the extrusion process.
• Implements corrective action to eliminate process problems. Inspects machines and equipment to ensure operational performance and optimum utilization.
• Confers with management, engineering, maintenance and quality personnel to resolve extrusion problems and recommends improvements to processes and equipment. Works with cross functional group to financially justify improvements needed to achieve business objectives.
• Coordinates activities for modifying extruders, machines, or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products.
• Reviews production, quality, maintenance, recycled materials and operational reports. Communicates shortfalls and problematic areas to production management and shift supervision to eliminate or minimize production issues and delays on shift.
• Trains Manufacturing Supervisors as appropriate.
• Develops and revises standard operational procedures (SOPs) and work practices.
• Manages Extrusion Technician Training Program which may include training new and existing Extrusion Technicians. Ensures all changes in processes are communicated and necessary training provided to associates. Observes the work of the Extrusion Technicians to ensure compliance with standards and procedures.
• Directs startups, shutdowns, and tear backs as needed. Provides technical expertise to management and supervisors. Works with other Process Engineers to ensure support is provided to plant as needed on the night/weekend shifts.
• Fills in for supervisors as necessary. Handles associate issues appropriately if needed.
• Supports EHS activities to maintain a safe work environment.
• All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• 5 to 10 years of significant extrusion experience in a fast paced 24/7 post form operation.
• A bachelor's degree in an engineering related field and/or equivalent work experience.
• Experience using recycled materials in extrusion process.
• Solid knowledge of engineering fundamentals and the ability to apply this knowledge to troubleshoot processes.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical and quality issues.
• Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and drive projects to completion.
• A success track record of process improvements.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook with the ability to build and manipulate data in spreadsheets.
• Knowledge of AS400 and a MRP is preferred.
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills with the ability to train others on technical processes.
• Must have a "hands-on" working style with a high involvement with equipment, process and people.
• Willing to be flexible with work hours to support our continuous operation.
