Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Roadway Engineer to join our Transportation Group in our Atlanta, Georgia office. M&N provides a wide variety of transportation engineering services to GDOT, County, municipal and private clients. We are looking for an individual with strong written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to assist and grow into leading projects and teams. This individual must be energetic, self-directed, and success-focused.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage engineering projects from concept through completion including design, planning, computations, quality assurance, and will train to take on project management responsibilities
  • Plan, schedule, and complete work assignments within established budgets and timelines
  • Utilize knowledge of GDOT, municipal design standards and criteria, and practices and policies
  • Write clear, concise, and accurate technical and non-technical reports, correspondence, memorandums, and specifications
  • Assist in preparing proposals
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Occasional travel to other offices and provide project support as needed
  • Perform limited field observations in support of construction and data collection
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans, including but not limited to implementation and knowledge of cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Transportation emphasis preferred
  • 6-10 years of related experience in highway/roadway engineering design
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration required. Georgia preferred
  • Knowledge of GDOT, municipal design standards and criteria, and practices and policies
  • Proficiency with: MicroStation, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D Preferred
  • Occasional work requirements beyond normal working hours for deadline completion or to accommodate field conditions
  • All new hires will be required to complete and pass a background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
