Software Engineer

On Site in San Diego, CA

Direct Hire

*This position pays between $85,000 and $120,000.

Contract to Hire will be considered*

*For Contract Rates: $45-$55/hourly (W2)

Pay for this position is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Primary Skill Requirements

  • Proven experience in embedded software development, including being highly proficient in writing and debugging code, especially (in order of priority) C/C++, Python, Assembly, and LabVIEW
  • Strong understanding of design constraints, especially those associated with writing embedded firmware and/or software used to control potentially safety critical machinery
  • Familiarity with digital communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C, USB interfaces, etc.
  • Experience with the complete software development life cycle: planning and analysis, requirements, design, development, integration, and testing
  • Familiarity with using version control systems associated with software development such as GIT
  • Familiarity with relational database interactions and development using SQL
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Proven ability to manage and/or lead engineering projects

Secondary Skill Requirements

  • Experience designing, developing, and documenting software/firmware interfaces
  • Understanding of analog and digital circuit design and signals theory
  • Strong understanding of foundational mathematical concepts including linear algebra, probability/statistics, and linear regression
  • Familiarity with and/or comfort level interfacing with electromechanical sensors and actuators, including motors, valves, electromagnets, switches, thermal actuators, etc.
  • Ability to use basic hardware and laboratory equipment, including power supplies, function generators, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, etc.

Required / Job Description:

  • 5-15+ years experience with a BSCS Degree.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Work with a fleet of systems and initiatives.
  • Version Control software experience - to track revisions, solve integration conflicts in code, manage different aspects of software projects.
  • DevOps experience is a plus - to manage software releases.
  • GitLab most common tool - experience preferred.
  • Compliment the current team which is mostly developers and coders.
  • Must be resourceful and know how to navigate around sparse documentation. Know how to get there . Not everything is super transparent.
  • All firmware is not tested up-front.
  • Much is already on track with the current team.
  • Should have a production software mentality.
  • Write software to test software or systems (test scripts).
  • Test and write/document processes.
  • Existing test scripts are written in an unusual language. Company is moving away from that.
  • Work with legacy scripts, add new scripts in Python, adapt to software transitioning.
  • Understand LabVIEW to convert to Python.
  • Write software to help uncover bugs in the firmware (for hardware products).
  • Military and/or Automotive Industry experience is a plus but not required.
