We are looking for a Controls Engineer III to join our team in our Loveland, CO office. JFT will accept applications until this position is filled.

Job Function:

To design, develop, and implement electrical control systems throughout project lifecycle. From conceptual through detailed production design and test of systems, including debugging of one-of-a-kind equipment.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop electrical and controls system design solutions based on engineering principles and involvement in presentation of the solution to customer.
  • Provide technical support to external and internal customers.
  • Interpret client requirements, identify and address design parameters and engineering problems.
  • Assist projects in selecting appropriate electrical devices given environmental, technical, and packaging issues.
  • Electrical, software design of customized solutions including manufacturing automation and safety systems.
  • Able to maintain project scope and identify project creep.
  • Support manufacture, build, and validation of systems which include hydraulics, pneumatics, servos, VFD's, relays, communication networks, touchscreens HMIs, pushbuttons and robotic integration.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, control, and process issues on live systems as well as simulations.
  • Create customer documentation such as user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, electrical schematics, and drawings.
  • Ability to architect programs that are simple to test, well documented and versatile.
  • Implementing Building Automation Systems.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in nuclear, high hazard remote or special purpose machinery design.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office, and programming of various manufacturers PLCs.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Preferred experience with regulatory compliance and hazardous locations.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work with export-controlled items.

Typical Working Conditions:

Primarily an office environment with work periodically performed in the fabrication/machine shop and outdoor testing areas. Depending on the project, there may be occasional travel to customer job sites. JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work on a computer (standing or sitting) for most of the day and use standard office equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers, and vendors is essential. May occasionally lift and carry objects, typically under 50 pounds. At times, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing and crawling to access and inspect equipment is required.
