Job Summary:
Staff engineers form the backbone of the DMG’s engineering team. They are expected to participate in all levels of the software development process from architecture to deployments. Staff Engineers lead DMG’s through example, trust and respect; engineers seek them out and follow their lead not because they are told to but because they understand the value. DMG’s staff engineering team have a bias for action and are obsessive about working backwards from the customer. They are visible to the entire organization and work together to organize and execute design reviews, setting standards and improving engineering culture and process.
What You'll Do:
- Architecture: Create, implement, and maintain the reference architecture.
- Design: Define the design engineering standards of the enterprise and ensure adherence.
- Code: Code approximately 50% of the time, tackling the most difficult problems and setting coding standards.
- Fight Technical Debt: Address technical debt while recognizing that perfection is unattainable.
- Operational Excellence: Ensure root cause analysis of incidents is thorough and systematic.
- Customer Working Backwards: Understand customer needs and business requirements.
- Technically Fearless: Stay updated on the latest and emerging technologies.
- Strategic: Support the development and implementation of DMG's technical strategy.
- Influence the Organization: Serve as role models and mentors for other engineers.
- Develop Others: Coach and mentor fellow engineers to enhance their technical competencies.
- Influence Cross-Functionally: Collaborate with partners in Product and across the company.
- Hire the Right Talent: Define hiring standards and actively participate in the hiring process.
What You Need:
- Degree or equivalent experience in information technology, computer science, or engineering.
- 10+ years of experience developing enterprise B2B systems and mission-critical applications.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, micro-services, observability, distributed systems, streaming, networking, testing and test automation, RPC (gRPC preferred).
- Mastery of SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Proficient in .Net and JVM languages.
- Ability to manage the stress of a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to meet the in-person requirements of the team and/or business needs.
