Humana's technology environment has pivoted from a centralized model over the past several years to a more federated model. This trend will continue and accelerate to the point where Humana's technology assets and users are spread out over hundreds of vendors, offices, and geographies. Against that backdrop, we are seeking an accomplished technology leader for the role of Associate VP, Cloud Solutions Engineering. The focus of this position will be to drive business growth and value by providing a comprehensive suite of infrastructure engineering services through modern cloud, automation, and development-oriented technology approaches.

The AVP of Cloud Solutions Engineering is expected to bring a broad vision to Humana's Technology landscape, with the engineering and operational experience and rigor that is commensurate with the increasing scale and complexity of Humana's enterprise. This position is a senior leader in the Technology organization. As such, it requires someone who can bring the experience of leading a major enterprise successfully through such digital transformations as migration to cloud infrastructures, enabling and transitioning to microservices, efficiency and scale through automation and SRE practices, and setting the strategy and vision for modern data management and analytics.

The AVP will be responsible for designing, developing, executing, and setting the strategy for Humana's Cloud infrastructure capability. This leader will provide executive leadership to a team of 80 FTEs and 50 contractors while creating and executing a plan to scale the team efficiently to support Humana's growth in healthcare services. He/she will also provide thought leadership, strategic vision, modern engineering architecture, and development of enterprise-wide engineering patterns and standards for Humana technology. In addition, the AVP will be responsible for creating and designing architectures that enable scale and velocity while maintaining stability and consistency, with a clear line of sight to business goals and strategies.

This position can be located anywhere within the lower 48 states.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop vision and strategy for a secure, scalable, reliable, automated cloud platform that enables self-service and frictionless delivery of cloud services at scale.
  2. Accelerate development of foundational cloud capabilities that allow for rapid deployment of cloud applications and services.
  3. Collaborate with IT stakeholders to develop, communicate and execute a multi-year cloud and data strategy to simplify delivery model, reduce hand-offs and drive transformational change.
  4. Lead cloud platform engineering transformation to support modern development architecture supporting always-on enterprise applications and services.
  5. Define and set data standards products contain complete, accurate, and detailed measurement throughout the customer journey. Provide expertise in the data structure of both raw and processed datasets within our ecosystem.
  6. Establish best practices to improve data architecture, development process, and data reliability.
  7. Lead teams who define standards for data architecture and who manage the platforms covering areas for data engineering.
  8. Integrate and automate deployment and provisioning of highly available infrastructure across data centers and hybrid cloud platforms to reduce overall delivery times.
  9. Develop a progressive engineering culture that fosters creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  10. Build in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across segments and/or enterprise-wide.
  11. Makes decisions that are typically related to intradepartmental coordination, development, and implementation of strategic plans, and business outcomes.

Key Candidate Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have extensive (typically 10 years) of technical experience, along with a record of success in leading and facilitating technology transformations to cloud services such as Azure, AWS, and GCP. This person should also have proven experience working in an Agile Scrum environment with data engineering solutions like Snowflake, Databricks, and modern database solutions for cloud environments. He/she will also be a strong leader of people with a record of success in expanding and elevating the capabilities and performance of the team. A Bachelor's degree is required, although a Master's in a technology field would be a plus.

In addition to the above, the following professional qualifications and personal attributes are also sought:

  1. Experience leading legacy transformations at scale, while navigating complexity and regulatory frameworks.
  2. Strong engineering expertise, ideally applied in a progressive leading-edge organization with scale and complexity.
  3. Strategic thought partnership and ability to learn the business, helping to shape multi-year strategies to support overall business growth.
  4. Capable of working up, down, and across an organization, effectively navigating a matrix to get things done and push boundaries, simultaneously.
  5. Current or recent experience in a large, highly matrixed company (i.e., Fortune 250), with proven ability to influence leaders and key stakeholders in such an environment.
  6. Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the polish, poise, and executive presence that will ensure effective interaction with senior and executive level audiences.
  7. Highly collaborative mindset and excellent relationship-building skills, including the ability to engage many diverse stakeholders and SMEs and win their co-ownership in the outcome.
  8. Extensive executive and people leadership experience (typically 8 years) with a demonstrated track record of building and developing strong teams and leading and creating 'followership' with an existing and expanding team.
  9. Prior experience in the health solutions industry.
