Desktop Engineer
Chicago, IL – 1-2 days onsite, 3-4 days work from home

Summary:
The Desktop Engineer is responsible for all components of the desktop. This includes, but is not limited to, building and supporting the workstation operating system and image, design, maintenance and implementation of automated software distribution technologies, and overall packaging of applications.

What you'll be doing:
  1. Act as technical subject matter expert for all OS and workstation image technologies and issues, including Windows 10, Microsoft Edge, and Google Chrome.
  2. Use workstation monitoring tools, develop queries and reports, create custom inventory and events, and provide data-driven analysis of the workstation environment.
  3. Design, document, support, and troubleshoot the workstation patching process.
  4. Troubleshoot difficult problems encountered with the PC environment and work with the internal application support teams to provide comprehensive solutions to these complex problems.
  5. Work with the Desktop & Remote Access Manager to recommend, architect and implement any new software distribution initiatives.
  6. Work with members of the Quality Assurance team to test automated software deployments prior to them being delivered to the end user.
  7. Design, document, support, and maintain the PC environment for all standard PC models, including, but not limited to, the following: BIOS, boot process, drivers, scheduled tasks, and local computer policy.
  8. Develop, document, implement, and maintain processes and procedures for workstation configuration and support.
  9. Develop, document, implement, and maintain automated scripts and tools for PC configuration and management.
  10. Coordinate selection and configuration of standard and non-standard personal computer hardware.
  11. Participate in professional organizations and attend conferences and/or seminars to keep abreast of technologies and trends.
  12. Provide 24x7 On-Call support on a rotating basis.
  13. Other duties as assigned.
Skills we're seeking:
  1. 5+ years of experience in IT.
  2. 3+ years of experience specifically as a Desktop Engineer focused on imaging, packaging and deployment.
  3. Strong SCCM/MECM experience
    • Must have at least some MECM experience, more the better.
  4. Experience with Windows and Active Directory.
