Job Title: Fire Protection Engineer
Salary: $80,000-100,000+ Bonus (Relocation Assistance if needed as well)

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fire Protection Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fire protection and life safety, particularly within the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) industry. This role involves directing fire protection designs to comply with evolving codes and standards, collaborating with various battery and inverter manufacturers, and ensuring the safety and compliance of our projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Plan and Specification Review: Review plans and specifications for fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and other fire protection systems to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Evaluate the level of risk and develop strategies to mitigate these risks through appropriate fire protection measures.
3. Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of NFPA 855, UL9540, UL9540A, International Fire Code, FM Global requirements, and other standards related to energy storage systems.
4. Design and Integration: Assist with research, design, concept development, planning, and optimal integration of energy storage systems.
5. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with architects, engineers, building owners, government agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure fire protection requirements are addressed in all project phases.
6. Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, national, and international fire safety codes and standards. Stay updated on changes in regulations and implement necessary modifications to existing fire protection systems to meet new requirements.
7. Emergency Response Planning: Review emergency response plans and evacuation procedures with the construction team. Provide training to operational site teams on fire safety procedures, evacuation protocols, and the proper use of fire protection equipment.
8. Relationship Management: Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, vendors, and office staff in a fast-paced environment. Support creative thinking and innovation that adds value at the discipline level.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

1. Technical Knowledge: Understanding of fire detection, alarm, suppression, and extinguishing systems. Knowledge of different types of fire protection equipment and technologies.
2. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex fire protection challenges.
3. Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to interact with clients, stakeholders, and team members. Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and collaborate with professionals from different disciplines.
4. Project Management: Skill in managing multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating with various stakeholders, and ensuring that fire protection systems are integrated into the overall design and construction process.
5. Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities. Collaborative approach to ensuring fire safety for BESS projects.

Qualifications:

1. Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Fire Protection Engineering, or equivalent years of experience.
2. Licenses and Certifications: Active Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) license.
3. Experience: Related work experience, preferably in utility-scale solar/PV projects. Experienced in the assessment and design of facility life safety systems.
4. Software Proficiency: Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
5. Personal Attributes: Strong organizational, presentation, and communication skills, both written and verbal. Positive, proactive attitude with the ability to take ownership and accountability. Excellent reasoning and decision-making skills. Customer-focused with the initiative and ability to work independently.
