J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers is seeking a Director / Associate Vice President of Engineering who will supervise and lead an engineering team that supports the manufacturing and fabrication of truck bodies, trailers, related equipment, and fabricated metal products. Delegates tasks to team members based on skill set, experience, and schedule needs. Strong communication skills to interface with office and shop colleagues daily. Takes ownership of the performance of the engineering department and manages multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
This individual should be experienced in leading others in a design and manufacturing environment.
This role leads and manages a team of 8 to 10 engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other job-related duties may be assigned in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Has demonstrated competency in leading engineers and technicians.
- Create schedules and delegate complex jobs and tasks.
- Interfaces with peers in different departments to meet company goals.
- Oversees the management of a department that produces bills of materials to support the material and required labor for producing parts.
- Able to document work processes and create detailed manufacturing instructions.
- Create and track department KPIs.
- Understands manufacturing processes including cutting, shearing, bending, forming, burning, welding, fit, and assembly.
- Understands hydraulic power systems and control systems.
- Observes and complies with all the provisions of the ISO 9001 QMS.
- Observe and comply with all safety rules, including the use of PPE.

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or Engineering Technology (E.T.) from a four-year college, university, high school, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, customers, and the public.
Computer Skills
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should know about Contact Management systems; Design software; the Internet; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software. AutoCAD, Inventor, and the Company's enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
