Responsibilities

In this role, you will work with product management and engineering on a complete solution using CalAmp’s telematics products that can easily be integrated by our customers.  In addition, you will routinely provide technical support for our internal support teams and occasionally provide support directly with our external customers.  You'll become an expert in the technical details of our cutting-edge products that provide crucial services to customers in numerous verticals, such as fleet operations, construction, and fixed asset monitoring.  You'll leverage your technical skills to troubleshoot and resolve challenging operational issues, ensuring that our products deliver the services for which they were designed. CalAmp will provide ample opportunities to learn new skills, such as vehicle telematics protocols, GPS operations, and the intricacies of telecom networks. At times this role will also be involved in testing and validating the products as needed for key features to support both firmware and script releases.

  • Develop scripts and configure devices according to product management requirements while taking into account real world application of script logic. 
  • Apply your unique abilities to solve challenging technical problems related to hardware, firmware, installation and wireless back-end functions.
  • Work with both engineering and validation teams to ensure our solutions operate as expected in all configurations. Help validation team improve product testing.
  • Provide on-boarding, training, integration support for our customer support team.
  • Provide technical documentation, user guides and knowledge base articles.
  • Integrate new software and hardware solutions into existing architecture to expand our product offering.
  • Execute test procedures that exercise key features of each product platform.
  • Analyze test data, generate detailed and executive summary reports, and log all data associated with each test for historical trend analysis.
  • Document all test anomalies along with associated device configuration and procedures.
Qualifications

Must Haves

  • Experience in a highly technical discipline, like computer programming, networking, or vehicle telematics
  • Knowledge of cellular communication technologies
  • Quickly analyze and grasp technical architectures and unique customer solutions
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills to identify issues with hardware, firmware and cloud based software.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in a programming language like C or scripting language like Python.
  • Creative problem solving skills and ability to work independently. 
  • A strong desire to learn and to help our customer support team solve complicated problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Perform in a fast past, dynamic environment
  • Highly organized

Strong Pluses

  • Embedded Linux experience
  • Any certifications in OBD / JBUS / Modbus vehicle bus protocols
  • Industry experience in the internet of things / vehicle telematics
  • Serial Communication experience – RS232 and RS485
  • Programming experience with APIs/Postman
  • Soldering or other electronics and PCB related skills
  • Ability to travel
