Are you a safety expert passionate about helping customers design and implement effective machine guarding and automation solutions?
GCG Automation & Factory Solutions has an exciting opportunity for you to join our Engineering team as our Safety Specialist!
In this critical role, you’ll be responsible for providing technical advice and guidance to both customers and our sales team on the proper selection, configuration, and operation of machine safety products and systems . This includes making recommendations for appropriate safety devices, software, and best practices and assisting customers with post-installation optimization and troubleshooting.
To excel in this position, you will need a solid understanding of current machine safety standards (OSHA, ANSI, ISO, IEC) as well as hands-on experience with safety-related components like e-stops, light curtains, scanners, and safety controllers/PLCs. Certifications such as CSP, B11 LMSS, or TÜV FS Eng are highly desirable, as is a bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent industry experience.
Upon completion of training, this role offers a hybrid work arrangement with the potential to work from home when not visiting customer sites. To allow for ease of travel to customer sites, the preferred location for this individual in this role would be either Indianapolis, IN or the Cincinnati / Dayton, OH area.
What you’ll do
Pre-sale activities including customer education and training of risk assessment, machine safety requirements and consensus standards
Provide to customers the proper selection, use, and integration of safety-related protection devices and software
Understand the customer’s application to select components that create a solution in agreement with customer performance expectations and the necessary requirements of the machine safety standards (which can require coordination with other GCG Specialists of other disciplines)
Post-sale activities including assisting customers to optimize and troubleshoot their safety-related applications
Support safety-related products including interlock switches and E-Stops, trapped key systems, safety light curtains and grids, area scanners, ASiSafe devices, safety interface relays, safety controllers and failsafe PLC
Support software including Banner Engineering safety controller and area scanner software, and Siemens Step 7 safety PLC software
Educate customers current safety requirements. This requires the Specialist to be knowledgeable of the correct application of current national and international machine safety standards, including relevant OSHA, ANSI, ISO, and IEC standards
Provide assistance on technical issues both pre- and post-sale for the machine safety solutions offered by GCG
Utilize CRM software to manage customer accounts, track sales opportunities, and activities
What you’ll bring
Required Qualifications:
Associates Engineering Degree, Technical Degree, or equivalent industry experience
Certification as at least one of the following: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), B11 Licensed Machinery Safety Specialist (B11 LMSS), or TÜV Functional Safety Engineer (FS Eng)
3-4 years of relevant industry experience
Strong math, algebra, and computer skills
Positive attitude and customer-focused mindset
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial)
Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration
5+ years of relevant industry experience
Knowledge of trigonometry, calculus, and strong written communication skills
