2nd Shift R&D Associate Engineer

Your Role and Responsibilities

Collaborates with a team of technical resources to carry out test requests for Global R&D teams in electrical and high power components.
Perform R&D and compliance testing using standard and specialized test equipment, within the planned testing time, ensuring compliance to the quality and delivery metrics.
Execute all technical functions relevant to the preparation and testing as specified by global test requests.
Prepare and operate test equipment for carrying out specific electrical tests, starting with calibration, dielectric, temperature rise with the goal of growing to learn short circuit, overload, electrical endurance, and specialized testing.
Perform environmental type tests such as rain spray, hose down, and water mist.
Perform basic calculations of technical data and report them accordingly.
Communicate test data and prepare technical documentation and formal reports as needed.
Maintain accurate maintenance and qualification records.
Manage the test queue and update on a timely basis.
Maintain confidentiality in handling proprietary test data, formulations, and data on patentable or other confidential items under development.
Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and working area.
Adhere to ABB safety protocols and procedures.
Ability to work independently and with a team with limited supervision.

Qualifications for the Role

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering and minimum 2 years of related experience is desired.
  • Must have basic knowledge in the operation of electrical and electromechanical equipment.
  • Must have strong knowledge of electricity theory and be able to read electrical schematics.
  • Experience with reading and understanding UL, CSA, and IEC testing standards is also desired.
  • Working knowledge of electrical testing equipment.
  • Must be PC proficient including MS Office - Outlook, Excel, Word as a minimum.
  • Must have driver's license and reliable transportation to commute to satellite lab.
  • Show an eagerness to learn advanced electrical principles and electromechanical expertise.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
