Sr. Software Engineer

Tableau Software is a company on a mission. We help people see and understand their data. The Query team in Tableau is building services to efficiently allow our customers to analyze their datasets and speed up their analytics journey. You'll be working on a team with a mission to ensure that Tableau’s Analytical engine works well with data of different scales and shapes. You will be working across our desktop, server, and online platforms to deliver the next generation of these technologies.
We’re looking for an experienced engineer to join the Query Processing team. Query Processing is one of the most complex technical challenges in Tableau. You will compile, optimize, and rewrite queries for all different types of data sources. You will be responsible for developing novel query execution and optimization techniques for industry-leading performance. You will be expanding the analytical product capabilities and performance of Tableau products. You will be constantly challenged to leverage your creativity and your technical prowess to improve Tableau.
Your Impact
- Extend and improve Tableau’s Query Processing capabilities
- Develop novel query optimization techniques for industry-leading performance
- Improve performance through caching, concurrency, and scaling
- Develop new algorithms and techniques for improving the performance and interactivity of our multi-tenant service
- Architect and design new technologies and features to support our fast-growing user base
- Collaborate with cross-functional groups to build an innovative product
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience writing code with object-oriented languages like C++
- Good understanding of database theory of query processing concepts – query parsing, optimization, and execution
- In-depth experience of design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and concurrency
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $146,600 to $237,200.
For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $160,000 to $258,700.
Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, and benefits. More details about our company benefits can be found at the following link:
