The Chief Engineer will supervise and coordinate activities of maintenance staff. Responsibilities include conducting project inspections, inspecting and monitoring work by staff, outside vendors, and contractors for quality, completeness, and conformance to specifications and standards.

Applicants must have effective written and oral communication skills, leadership and organizational skills, and the ability to read and create blueprints. They should be able to manage multiple projects and maintain a professional relationship with department staff and general property staff. The position requires the ability to lift bulky, heavy objects (minimum 40 lbs) and climb stairs and ladders.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring all property maintenance and upkeep, ensuring that required documentation is complete.
  • Ordering and controlling the purchase of required parts and supplies while demonstrating effective budget management.
  • Conducting effective staff scheduling, payroll work-up, and personnel management.
  • Staying abreast of all federal, state, and local government requirements relating to facility maintenance operations, permits, and licensing.
  • Maintaining effective equipment and room preventative maintenance programs.
  • Reviewing, researching, and soliciting for value related to service contracts on an annual or as-needed basis.
  • Coordinating and monitoring property security and contract services.
  • Co-chairing the Safety Committee with the Human Resources Director and being responsible for property-wide fire safety, related equipment, and training.
  • Maintaining an effective key control program.
  • Consistently inspecting property to determine maintenance needs.
  • Being responsible for the development of the department's annual budget; monitoring and reporting variances against the plan; keeping track of labor costs and related expenses.
  • Following up on maintenance repairs and coordinating with the Engineering & Maintenance department to ensure hotel service quality standards are met.
  • Serving as a member of the Executive Committee/Management Team, Manager on Duty (when required), and working with other management personnel in establishing and implementing hotel service standards to achieve maximum profitability and efficiency.
  • Customarily and regularly directing the work of at least two or more other full-time employees or their equivalent.
  • Having the authority to hire or fire other departmental employees.
  • This is a working position and hours must be flexible to meet the demands of the business, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Valid driver's license needed.
