Key job responsibilities
- Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent data center designs across Americas within schedule and cost constraints while maintaining a high level of quality.
- Able to influence internal stakeholders, internal customers (operations), and external consultants to address program wide design changes.
- Manage escalations from the design team and collaborate with procurement, construction and external consultants.
- Effectively communicate with AWS Leadership and external project partners, including the creation, tracking & reporting of metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality throughout the lifecycle of the project.
- Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce contract change orders without negative impacts on quality or reliability.
- Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops, reducing and automating manual work and hand-offs, identifying and implementing best practices across the business, and minimizing process variability through standardization and automation.
- Create global best practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the globe.
- Ability to motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in an explosive growth and deadline-driven environment.
- Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%. International travel may be needed.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ years experience managing staff / consultants / vendors.
- 6+ years of design experience in commercial / industrial / other complex technical projects.
- 7+ years of Mission Critical facility design experience.
- 5+ years leading sub-consultants and project teams.
- Bachelor or Master's degree (MBA, Engineering, Architecture, Construction).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional Engineering/Architecture License.
- 10+ years of experience directly related to data center design, construction, operations, and/or facility maintenance.
- Proficiency in building codes, regulations, and standards including IBC or equivalent.
- Direct experience with design or construction administration of a variety of electrical distribution systems ranging from low voltage to high voltage.
- Functional knowledge of industry standards, environmental codes, building codes and safety standards including International Building Code.
- Direct experience in negotiating with regulatory agencies regarding departures from building code and construction change orders.
- Working Knowledge of Sharepoint, BIM/Revit, Salesforce and Procore.
