This role is part of Enterprise Program Management (EPM), where we provide technical standards, tools, processes, training, and subject matter expertise for product engineering and manufacturing. EPM allows all Blue Origin business units to benefit from commonly used capabilities, hardware, and software and assists business units in identifying, selecting, and training engineers from both inside and outside the organization.
As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will conduct material tests and interpret data in support of all of Blue's various spaceflight systems. The data you collect will directly influence failure investigations and inform material selection decisions. This role will be hands-on in a laboratory environment, working together with a team to analysis samples and generate results.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Using laboratory equipment to complete FOD/Forensics related internal customer requests
  • Authoring lab reports
  • Communicating with internal customers
  • Authoring lab documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related field
  • Hands-on experience in a materials testing lab with minimal oversight
  • Strong knowledge of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and Failure Investigation
  • Ability to develop engineering tests to define requirements for undefined material forms and processes
  • Experience with characterization of wear surfaces, fractures, and materials using methods such as: optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, and infrared spectroscopy.
  • Strong written and computer skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with fractography, debris sampling and quantification, wear particle analysis, etc
  • Strong knowledge of metallurgy and/or experience working in a metallurgical laboratory
  • Familiarity with Jira or similar assignment-tracking tools
  • Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or related field

Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $111,690.00-$156,366.00
Other site ranges may differ
