MATERIALS ENGINEER – FRACTURE AND FATIGUE
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop fatigue and fracture properties for novel rocket designs
- Work with design engineers on material selection and property development
- Implement fracture control for manned space flight and reusable rockets
- Conduct and direct hands-on laboratory testing and failure analysis of vehicle hardware and raw stock materials
- Find and implement innovative approaches to improve fatigue life of hardware
- Serve as a residential expert for testing of the mechanical behavior of metals
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in materials science or mechanical engineering
- 3+ years of experience related to fatigue, fracture, or failure analysis of metals
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- PhD in material science or materials engineering
- Expertise in one of the following: fracture control, conducting fatigue or fracture tests, or failure analysis
- Strong desire to mentor and grow employees
- Expert first principle knowledge of mechanical behavior or metals
- Experience with fracture control principles for aerospace
- Expertise in aerospace materials including high strength aluminum, nickel alloys, and titanium
- Understanding of test and design approaches for fatigue crack growth, low-cycle fatigue, fracture, and elevated temperature behavior
- Demonstrated track record performing failure analysis of functional components in a field such as aerospace or automotive
- Understanding of non-destructive test methods for fracture control
- Demonstrated track record of success in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, and highly competitive environment
- Personality and drive to execute in a scrappy entrepreneurial environment that operates under tight timelines and aggressive schedules
- Effective written and interpersonal communication skills
- Capable of interacting with and conveying concepts within all levels of our organization
