ABOUT Parametric

Parametric is part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, the asset management division of Morgan Stanley. We partner with advisors, institutions, and consultants to build portfolios focused on what's important to them and their clients. A leader in custom solutions for more than 30 years, we help investors access efficient market exposures, solve implementation challenges, and design multi-asset portfolios that respond to their evolving needs. We also offer systematic alpha and alternative strategies to complement clients' core holdings.

This role is part of Parametric's hybrid working model, which includes working in the office 2-3 days a week and choosing to work remotely or in the office the remaining days of the week.

ABOUT The Team

  • We are building financial software that solves some of the world's most complex financial opportunities. This includes building solutions to provide customized direct index exposure while making tax-sensitive asset allocation decisions to improve overall after-tax portfolio returns.
  • We design and build financial software responsible for the account life cycle that starts with the onboarding of accounts through the management of client activities and investment instructions.
  • We are focused on delivering high-quality, scalable solutions that are cloud-native.

ABOUT The Role

We are seeking curious and passionate individuals who possess the drive to continuously challenge themselves to build things in a better and more scalable manner.

The Lead Software Engineer is a pivotal role that combines strong people and technical leadership, adept project management, process refinement, comprehensive training, and support. The individual in this role works closely with team leads across the Technology organization, Business Analysts and Business Partners and is involved in crafting foundational components crucial to the functionality of the Equity Portfolio Management Platform. These services, in turn, facilitate the seamless execution of rule-based portfolio analytics and order generation processes, ultimately enabling a streamlined, exception-driven portfolio management process. The Lead Software Engineer is a proven people leader who can effectively lead a team of developers through strong mentoring and career growth and development, supporting these individuals as they design, build, and support the next generation of services that support all aspects of the platform.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership directly managing a team of engineers, guiding and mentoring them to achieve their highest potential while collectively advancing the goals and projects of the engineering team.
  • Serve as a technical lead on new and ongoing development projects, designing, developing, and maintaining services and APIs to support various business needs.
  • Leverage scalable and distributed computing principles to build the next generation of services.
  • Ensure that software solutions remain integrated, efficient, maintainable, and appropriate for a highly regulated industry.
  • Support the architecture and deliver scalable enterprise solutions, leveraging AWS cloud native technologies, designing and implementing micro-services and a relentless focus on performance and resilience.
  • Create unit/integration/functional/performance tests.
  • Conduct code reviews of other developers.
  • Share experience, knowledge, and ideas to the team to improve processes and productivity.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related area of study, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 8+ years of hands-on development experience managing all aspects of technical projects with a proven track record of delivering well architected and well written software solutions.
  • Experience leading software development teams with demonstrated success providing both expert technical guidance and employee leadership and career growth while fostering an engaging, collaborative environment.
  • 5+ years of hands-on .Net software design and development experience. Java/J2EE and React experience a plus.
  • Cloud native development experience a plus: AWS is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong aptitude for highly efficient data structures and algorithms.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
  • Working knowledge of NoSQL database engines such as Redis, Cassandra, or MongoDB.
  • Proven track record of becoming a subject matter expert in areas related to current assignments.
  • Strong leadership skills including:
    • Communication
    • Total quality commitment
    • Ownership and accountability
    • Project management
  • A creative, self-confident self-motivator with a "can do" spirit.
  • Passionate, forward thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and integrity.
  • Ability to collaborate and partner across a diverse team tapping the strength and unique skills of every team member.
  • Assertiveness balanced with a sensitivity toward and concern for people. The ability to create strong work ethics and committed teams, foster open dialogue, and promote individual and team success.
  • Effective communication skills with business users and other developers.
