Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) is the world's largest telematics service provider. Its mission is to make the world's roads and drivers safer. The company's AI-driven platform, DriveWell Fusion, gathers sensor data from millions of IoT devices — including smartphones, proprietary Tags, connected vehicles, dashcams, and third-party devices — and fuses them with contextual data to create a unified view of vehicle and driver behavior. Auto insurers, automakers, commercial mobility companies, and the public sector use insights from CMT's platform to power risk assessment, safety, claims, and driver improvement programs.

CMT is looking for a collaborative, customer-committed, and creative Principal Database Administrator in our Cloud SRE team who wants to join us in making roads safer by making drivers better!

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Engineering, Architecture, and SRE's to implement database environment improvements
  • Work proactively in tuning and implementing queries and new features to expand the scalability of the database environment
  • Administer Postgresql Databases on cloud infrastructure with a focus on performance, high availability, and scale
  • Maintain all aspects of our Postgresql and Aurora-PostgreSQL database environments for production, integration, and staging
  • Design databases and database applications to support products, ensuring system scalability, security, performance, and reliability
  • Coordinate with compliance & auditing - assisting in risk analysis assessment and response
  • Maintain data integrity and security (manage roles and permissions of database users)
  • Document detailed steps to recreate configuration changes made to the database environment
  • Collaborate with development, architecture, and release teams providing architectural design recommendations to effectively adapt the database environment to support new platform features and capabilities
  • Manage HA/DR setups to meet or exceed application RTO/RPO targets and implement solutions for managing backup and recovery
  • Support software developers to drive proper coding practices and assist in the development of complex queries, tuning of DML
  • Complete any additional tasks as they arise

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience and/or certification
  • 7+ years of relevant working experience in relational database administration (PostgreSQL)
  • 5+ years of experience building/administering databases in highly-scalable applications
  • Design and document systems, including writing and reviewing code, to automate away problems within your squad's domain
  • Ability to use tools to identify bottlenecks or performance problems enabling query and schema optimization
  • Deep understanding of AWS Database services, especially AWS RDS (Postgresql; Aurora), AWS Redshift, and experience with DynamoDB
  • Detailed understanding of PostgreSQL database server architecture, concepts, features, and high-availability technologies
  • Strong understanding of Cloud Platforms storage performance, memory, and I/O (AWS, Azure, Google cloud)
  • Demonstrated experience deploying and managing large scale distributed Linux environments
  • Participate in Tier 2 / Tier 3 response alongside the engineers who build our production backends

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with leading projects in system design, architecture changes, and technology selection
  • Strong Linux admin skills
  • Experience in automation using Terraform/Cloudformation
  • Experience managing AWS RDS clusters, especially Postgresql Aurora clusters
  • Experience in AWS Redshift and DynamoDB administration and tuning
  • Experience in agile and DevOps methodologies implementation
  • Experience in production-oriented roles
  • Experience with Linux operating environments and database clients
