Image Engineering was founded as a company that pushes boundaries, develops new ideas through design and fabrication, and is a leader in the visual display and special effects industry. We are comprised of a team of artists, engineers, event producers, fabricators, and creative thinkers.

We have worked all over the United States completing thousands of projects in the field of creative multimedia shows for clients such as Rihanna, Jay Z, Tiesto, Lady Gaga, American Idol, America’s Got Talent and multiple professional sports franchises in the NFL, NBA, and NHL. We have also created permanent and temporary interactive installations for world-class venues including the Staples Center, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Smithsonian Institutions, and Walt Disney World.

Our strength lies in our engineering department which focuses on creating custom practical special effects that the world has never seen before. With an in-house team of mechanical, electrical, and integration/show controls engineers, we are able to design exactly what our clients are looking for from the ground up. Our in-house team of fabricators and assemblers bring these designs to life with the use of cutting-edge equipment. As our newest division, permanent and themed entertainment installations are poised as Image Engineering’s next chapter of growth.

Role Description

Director of Engineering

Full Time (On-site), Salary

M-F, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Job Summary

The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Engineering division. Under their leadership, the Engineering division will scale and grow to meet the needs of our expanding client base in the permanent installation and themed entertainment industry. The Director of Engineering will embrace the role of mentor to junior engineers and assist the engineering management team in honing their management skills so they can better support their direct reports. This leader will work directly with the Vice President, Operations to chart the course for the department, enacting process improvements and advising on necessary personnel hiring and equipment procurement.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Oversee, manage, and mentor the Manager of Engineered Products, Electrical, Mechanical and Integration/Show Controls engineers.
  2. Work with the Director of Research & Development to set the course for the engineering division.
  3. Advise leadership on necessary resource planning requirements, hiring, and equipment acquisition.
  4. Manage overall departmental budget and forecast financial profit/liabilities with the Vice President, Operations.
  5. Oversee project budgets and engage in cost management strategies during R&D and production phases.
  6. Communicate technical information regarding specific projects and general departmental operation to non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership and clients.
  7. Organize, plan, and document department processes and procedures.
  8. Oversee multiple projects in different phases concurrently while assisting the engineering team to ensure deadlines are met or flag issues to leadership/client teams.
  9. Refine and build out departmental processes to improve overall efficiency.
  10. Lead team in the institution of increased quality control programs.
  11. Act as a consulting engineer on projects reviewing project work and assisting in mentoring our junior engineers.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience working in engineering for manufacture.
  3. Minimum of 5 years of experience managing a team.
  4. Able to work collaboratively with a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment on projects with short lifecycles.
  5. Previous experience with project and product management.
  6. Ability to review, understand and make recommendations to engineered product designs.
  7. Ability to view a problem from multiple angles, understand the issues while utilizing critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
  8. Good understanding of live events, entertainment and themed entertainment industries.
  9. Excellent budgetary management skills.
  10. High level of verbal and written communication skills.
  11. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of management.
  12. Experience with Solidworks.
  13. Experience with Altium PCB design software a plus.
  14. Onsite position – Baltimore, MD.
