Where you will work:
The Augusta mill sits along the Savannah River, on the state border between Georgia and South Carolina and manufactures light, medium, and heavyweight coated paperboard. It is a well-invested SBS paperboard manufacturing facility with approximately 600 thousand tons of capacity. This facility boasts over 700 employees and has been in operation for almost 65 years. Located on 3,000 acres, the Augusta site operates two paper machines that produce 1,940 tons per day. The Augusta Mill is Clearwater Paper’s largest paperboard facility and is critical to the success of our strategy and future.

What you will do:

The Reliability Engineer will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:

  • Ensures prompt completion of RCFAs and corrective actions.
  • Tracks equipment related downtime data to identify opportunities for improvement with area stakeholders.
  • Leads RCFA process identifying and implementing actionable steps to prevent recurrence.
  • Analyzes downtime and leads reliability improvement efforts related to significant and/or chronic failures.
  • Assist in development and utilization of key reliability metrics to consistently review performance.
  • Maintains reliability improvement plan for departmental machinery.
  • Ensures critical reliability improvement projects and repair job plans are within budget.
  • Implements reliability improvements into routine and major outage work scopes.
  • Provides oversight for mill lubrication plans.
  • Owns mill-wide responsibility of some critical reliability systems (i.e.: lubrication, vibration, pumps, gearboxes, etc.).
  • Provides technical support to the area reliability inspectors and lubrication mechanics.
  • Improves utilization of predictive technologies to reduce unscheduled downtime.
  • Provides technical support of supervisors and craftsmen as needed.
  • Supports planner work systems and master data improvement efforts such as PM development and storeroom inventory adjustment recommendations.
  • Support Capital and Repair Projects in the following scopes:
    • Engineering liaison - develops and handoffs capital work to mill engineering.
    • Design for reliability - ensures all capital and repair jobs lead to optimal functionality.
    • Facility plan development - support 5-year repair plan development and provide input for capital planning.

What you will need:

  • BS Degree in Engineering (preferred) or demonstrated equivalent practical/technical experience.
  • 5+ years reliability experience in an industrial maintenance organization. Paper industry and or power & recovery experience preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of reliability concepts and application.
  • Demonstrated leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and sustain change.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage a work force.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, as well as frequent movement throughout the facility for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office, hand tools or electrical equipment.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required in mill environment.
  • Exposure to airborne particles and times of increased heat and humidity.
  • High speed manufacturing environment, sustained exposure to high frequency noises.
  • Available to work on-call during select weekends.

The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience among other factors.
