Job Overview
In Growth Engineering, our goal is to increase the number of transacting Customers while also growing their purchase frequency and lifetime value. We build core platforms and services that power Coupang’s growth. Various platforms under our portfolio include Search Advertising Platform, Affiliate Platform, Display targeting & re-targeting Platform, CRM, Audience Platform, Push Marketing Platform, and other core marketing services for landing, tracking & attribution. ML opportunities across these portfolios include targeting, personalization, product & offer recommendations, budget optimization, real-time bidding, creative optimization, fraud detection, and various others.
As our Head of Machine Learning for Growth Marketing, you will play a critical role in driving innovation in Machine Learning enablement of Growth / Marketing platforms. You & your team will design & develop end to end machine learning solutions to drive impact across our portfolio of platforms. You will collaborate with various Growth Engineering teams to build and deploy ML models & services that will directly help grow customers, increase wallet share and improve ROAS. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with Business, Product & Engineering leaders to identify opportunities to leverage ML to drive growth and improve efficiencies across various growth channels
- Lead and execute ML initiatives end to end in close collaboration across teams to deliver impact
- Design and build large-scale machine learning models and systems to improve ad targeting, keyword bidding, product & offer recommendations, personalization and various other aspects of the growth stack
- Hire and develop a stellar ML Engineering team for Growth Marketing
- Communicate clearly and concisely with the team members, peers and leadership team
- Own definition, measurement, and reporting of relevant metrics
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience in machine learning, statistics, applied math or a quantitative field
- 5+ years of experience leading ML engineering teams delivering impact at B2C scale
- Hands-on technical experience working with large scale data to drive significant business and financial impact, preferably in e-commerce
- Deep knowledge in machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling
- Experience building and productionizing innovative scalable end-to-end machine learning systems
- Strong fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm, problem solving and complexity analysis
- Excellent communicator, both to technical and business audiences
- Ability to deal with ambiguity in business and technology
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional and globally distributed teams
- Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive. High on bias for action
- Bachelors’ degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, science or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid people management skills to coach and lead high performing software engineers and keep them motivated.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills to shepherd communication with end users, technical & business teams to collect requirements, describe product features, and develop technical designs to achieve business goals.
- Knowledge of Agile software engineering practices & patterns for the full software development lifecycle including coding standards, code reviews, build processes, testing, and live site operations.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional, highly collaborative environment.
- Track record of developing engineers through various career stages and building high-performance teams.
- Experience building complex, high-performance, and highly available distributed software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.
- Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement of systems, software and processes through data analysis and metrics.
- Able to independently operate and lead through ambiguous in fast paced environment.
Pay & Benefits:
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.
The base pay for this position ranges from $171,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $351,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
