Principal Applications Engineer
This position is for a Principal Applications Engineer in the Mobile Solutions Business (MSB) in Skyworks. Our application teams are responsible for helping customers to adopt our parts successfully on their projects and leading all communication between internal teams and customers. The successful candidate will manage assigned projects as a single contributor or as part of a team. The successful candidate will possess an excellent understanding of fundamental RF and phone level design and troubleshooting experience, strong software skills, excellent leadership, and be a driven and committed team player, with outstanding communication skills. Job Description
Work activities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Interact with internal and external customers.
- Evaluation board/radio hardware design.
- Verification and evaluation of products in development for compliance to device and system level requirements.
- Phone level application design support for compliance to industry standards and customer production robustness.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolution of device production issues.
- Work with customers and internal teams to define device level requirements and perform system tradeoff analysis.
- Collaborate with the quality team to support failure analysis.
- Frequent on-site support is required to achieve successful design wins.
- Optimize TX/RX performance and understand the trade-offs of TX and RX.
Qualifications
- BSEE + 12 or MSEE with at least 8 years’ experience, including experience in phone level RF Systems engineering.
- Able to manage assigned projects and mentor junior level application engineers.
- Must have experience in a customer-facing role with necessary communication skills to interface effectively.
- Highly desirable to have experience in wireless handset application of TX/RX in GSM/C2K/WCDMA/LTE systems; NR experience is a plus, along with RF PCB design, testing, and troubleshooting of RF circuits and phone boards.
- Must have a strong theoretical background in fundamental RF and systems design.
- Broad experience in impedance matching on mobile phones and a strong understanding of Tx/Rx parameters and FDD/TDD products.
- Strong knowledge of system level debugging using phone tools.
- Strong hands-on skills for soldering and equipment handling such as Base station emulator (CMW100/500 & UXM), Network Analyzer, Signal generator, Spectrum analyzer, and Noise Figure Meter.
- SW skills in C++ and Python for PXIe and ET bench and Auto test bench setting are a plus.
- Tier 1 customer support experience is a plus.
The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $126,500 - $241,700 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location.
