The Office of Innovation & Technology (OIT) is the central IT agency for the City of Philadelphia headed by the Chief Information Officer (CIO). OIT oversees all major information and communications technology initiatives for the City of Philadelphia - increasing the effectiveness of the information technology infrastructure, where the services provided are advanced, optimized, and responsive to the needs of the City of Philadelphia’s businesses, residents, and visitors. OIT responsibilities include: identifying the most effective approach for implementing new information technology directions throughout city government; improving the value of the city’s technology assets and the return on the city’s technology investments; ensuring data security continuity; planning for continuing operations in the event of disruption of information technology or communications services; and supporting accountable, efficient and effective government across every city department, board, commission and agency.

Job Description

  1. Perform switch, router, firewall, wi-fi and site to site VPN configuration, installation and maintenance.
  2. On call shifts may be required – this will include traveling to remote sites to set, configure or troubleshoot network problems.
  3. Assist with network security – firewalls, VPN devices and other perimeter devices.
  4. Monitoring alerts from various building probes.
  5. Cabling and connecting both copper and fiber equipment.
  6. Other related duties.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Network Certification Preferred.
  2. Ability to analyze packet captures.
  3. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  4. Experience with Juniper is a plus.
  5. Good time management, ability to follow process, able to work in a group but also self-manage tasks.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience deemed acceptable by the Office of Innovation & Technology and Human Resources also considered.
  2. Three to Five years applicable work experience in IT with emphasis in networking.

Additional Information

Salary Not to Exceed: $90,000. Starting salary to be determined based on experience and qualifications.
