Our team is leading the advancement of Amazon's generative AI capabilities, and we are seeking a talented Software Development Engineer to join our journey.

The Store Foundations org manages foundational services and frameworks that power the Amazon Store. This software development role will be responsible for incorporating generative AI technology into the heart of our existing offerings, and building new offerings from the ground up.

Key job responsibilities

1. Partner with senior engineering leaders to design, develop, and operate generative AI-based solutions for the Amazon Store.
2. Troubleshoot and solve complex problems within the context of generative AI and distributed services; recommend/implement solutions using techniques such as prompt engineering, query tuning, and retrieval augmented generation (RAG).
3. Optimize the performance and availability of our offerings to meet and exceed Amazon’s resilience guidelines.
4. Facilitate service/feature migrations and automated testing using advanced generative AI tooling.
5. Improve the operational excellence of our foundational offerings by delivering availability, performance, testing, and monitoring improvements.

This multi-faceted role entails learning about the latest generative AI technology, and applying that technology to drive innovation within the Amazon Store. One day, you will partner with senior engineering leaders and scientists to influence the future direction of our offerings. Next, you will implement cutting edge solutions to complex problems while improving the shopping experience for millions of customers. You will develop a deep understanding of the Store's distributed service architecture, and you will use that understanding to drive improvements to the Store at a foundational level.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
