Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is currently looking for a talented and self-motivated Principal Civil Engineer to join our Engineering Team. Responsibilities include civil site engineering and design for industrial facilities throughout the United States for both new and existing facilities. This is a great opportunity to get involved on challenging and interesting design projects for various industrial, power, and manufacturing clients.
Responsibilities
  • Perform Civil Engineering duties in the design, analysis, and preparation of calculations, drawings, and specifications for use on specific projects.
  • Perform and prepare civil site designs and modifications at various industrial facilities located throughout the United States.
  • Serve as a Lead Civil Engineer on projects, reviewing and approving scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Assigns tasks and directs engineers, designers, and administrative staff.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines to participate in the development of plans and basis of design documents to guide construction activities.
  • Interface with customers, officials, suppliers, and contractors throughout all phases of planning, design, and construction.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Prepare conceptual and detailed design sketches, engineering calculations, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Apply basic technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts in development of engineering design packages.
  • Consider construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors in planning stages and risk analysis.
  • Understand and apply applicable federal, state, and local codes and industry specific standards for engineering projects. Understand and be able to determine applicability of local, state, and international building codes.
  • Present technical information to peers or other personnel for review, to implement standards, or operating procedures.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Provide Material Take Offs and cost estimates for materials, labor, and engineering to determine a project's economic feasibility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university with focus in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 15 years of Civil Engineering experience in the industrial industry.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D proficient
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, transparent, teamwork-based culture
  • Complex Problem Solving (STEM).

  • Good Communication Skills (Verbal and Written).
  • Judgment and Decision Making.
  • Attention to Detail.
  • Strong desire to learn.
  • Occasional periods of travel to customer plants and construction sites.
  • May be required to work in an office, a power plant or industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Mid-cap EPC+ with Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) experience
  • Proficient with Engineering and Computer Software (MS Office, AutoCAD, 2D &/or 3D CAD, BlueBeam, Revit, NavisWorks, Autodesk Civil 3D, Autodesk Storm & Sanitary Analysis)

Physical Demands:
Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, video conferencing, email, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry, and move objects safely.
Work Environment:
Employee will work primarily in an office, however they may work in other environments including warehouses and, in a trailer, or building on construction sites. On construction sites, noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
