We are looking for a Director of Development Database to lead our data analytics strategy and manage our CRM system. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analytics, leadership experience, and a passion for leveraging data to drive social impact.

Purpose of Position: The Director of Development Database Management leads the development team’s database and data analytics strategy, managing data collection, gift and date processing, analysis, optimization, and reporting to support the mission and initiatives of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the organization’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system (i.e., Bonterra’s EveryAction) to support fundraising and donor management activities.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive development data analytics strategy that aligns with the development team and organization's goals.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track progress on fundraising activities, donor segmentation, campaign effectiveness, and other key metrics.
  • Provide strategic guidance, actionable insights, and recommendations based on data analysis to inform decision making.
  • Customize and configure CRM workflows, processes, and reports to meet stakeholder needs.
  • Train and support team members on CRM usage, ensuring adoption of best practices and efficient utilization of system capabilities.
  • Oversee the collection, storage, and maintenance of data to ensure accuracy, integrity, compliance, privacy and security.
  • Conduct advanced data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform strategic decisions.
  • Create and deliver regular and ad-hoc reports and presentations to stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, executive leadership, and other collaborators.
  • Develop and maintain data models, reporting systems, and dashboards. Create and maintain data visualization tools to effectively communicate complex data insights. Ensure reports and visualizations are tailored to the needs of different audiences.
  • Work closely with program managers, fundraisers, and other departments to understand their data needs and provide analytical support.
  • Facilitate data sharing and collaboration across the organization. Seek opportunities to collaborate with IT and other departments to integrate CRM with other systems and tools.
  • Coordinate vendor selection, contracts, and negotiations. Recommend and implement new software and tools to enhance data capabilities. Collaborate with vendors to implement system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Manage relationships with CRM vendors and other third-party service providers. Monitor vendor performance and ensure adherence to service level agreements.
  • Ensure the development team’s data infrastructure is scalable and adaptable to future needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor data quality standards and procedures.
  • Manage data imports, exports, and integration with other platforms.
  • Conduct regular audits and quality checks to maintain clean and reliable data.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation in CRM management, data processing, and reporting.
  • Implement and maintain gift acceptance policies and procedures.
  • Document procedures and processes related to CRM administration, data management, gift processing, and training.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in CRM technology and data management practices.
  • Manages and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance and resources. Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits, interviews, selects, hires, trains, orients, mentors, evaluates, coaches, counsels, disciplines, and rewards. Establishes and monitors staff safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Work in collaboration with the Development and Communications teams to support fundraising efforts and campaigns, such as providing impact stories and reports resulting in financial support.
  • Participate in donor events, meetings and tours.
  • Support grant writing and fundraising efforts with data-driven insights and impact analysis. Ensure program grant compliance, and quality of services and evaluations.

Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

Performs work primarily in an office setting. Potentially prolonged periods of sitting and repetitive motion. May work in an area with high noise level. Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal dander, and feces. Occasional lifting with reasonable accommodation.

Compensation: Starting at $115,000 - $127,000 annually (starting pay commensurate with market, experience, and equity)

Requirements

Position Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., EveryAction, Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) and data analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Working knowledge of gift acceptance and entry policies, including compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and generate meaningful insights.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience supervising a team, driving operational excellence, and informing organizational strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and influence key stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Required

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Non-Profit Management, or related field.
  • Work Experience: Eight years progressive responsibility in CRM administration, data management, and gift processing including five years of experience leading teams.

Desired

  • Certification in CRM administration (e.g., Salesforce Administrator, Raiser’s Edge Professional).
  • Experience in designing and implementing data integration solutions.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and donor management best practices.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle confidential information with discretion.
