This Classification is considered exempt and is not subject to the Civil Service Examination process.

This position is open to all candidates, both internal and external, who meet the minimum requirements.

Residency Requirement: There is no residency requirement to submit an application; however, all District employees must be domiciled within the boundaries of the District within six months of successful completion of probation. (The District is in Cook County, Illinois, covering approximately 90% of the county area.)

Probationary Period: The probationary period for this classification is one year (250 days worked).

DUTIES:

Performs highly difficult and responsible administrative or complex technical work of an engineering nature. Under general direction, directs and coordinates categorical groupings of functions within the organization, such as design, construction, operations or administration.

ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT: Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university majoring in engineering and ten years of engineering experience at the professional level of which at least five years must have been in work related to the District's activities. Five years of this experience must have been in an administrative capacity with responsibility for major engineering projects or plant management, including technical and budgetary accountability.

SUBSTITUTION: Graduate study in engineering may be substituted for the non-specialized experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
