This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.


As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, you will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail.


Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  1. Responsible for leading the Component-level Thermal Analysis team or the System-level Thermal Analysis team within the Thermal Analysis group. Perform personnel management including performance reviews, time cards, training, etc.
  2. Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team.
  3. Manage your direct reports’ professional development (e.g., coaching, routine one-on-one development conversations, performance reviews, and promotion management).
  4. Own the delivery and quality of thermal analysis of one or more spacecraft systems/components, often including the work of several contributing analysts.
  5. Build thermal models in Thermal Desktop (for system-level) or ANSYS Icepak (for component-level) based on system inputs from external teams.
  6. Predict spacecraft and part temperatures across all mission phases.
  7. Identify non-compliances to thermal requirements and drive them to resolution.
  8. Perform trade studies and optimizations of thermal design solutions and collaborate with external IPTs on the trade offs.
  9. Document thermal analysis results and present at program gated reviews.

Qualifications

  1. B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering or similar.
  2. 5+ years of relevant thermal analysis experience in either Thermal Desktop or ANSYS Icepak.
  3. Expert level understanding of heat transfer fundamentals in space environment.
  4. Strong understanding of common spacecraft thermal hardware.
  5. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired

  1. M.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  2. 2+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for leading and mentoring employees.
  3. 8+ years of experience in thermal analysis for spacecraft systems.
  4. Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, etc and semi-passive devices like sensors and heaters.
  5. Familiar with agile project management.
  6. Familiar with thermal environments of lunar missions.
  7. Experience in safety-critical aerospace vehicle certification processes.

Compensation

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $125,235-$175,329. Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $136,620-$191,268. Compensation range for on site CA applicants is $136,620-$191,268. Other site ranges may differ.
