The Role We Want You For
The Commissioning Engineer will work as part of the team and be responsible for the commissioning of mission critical equipment, safe working practices, issue resolution, and facility handover. The primary objective of the Commissioning Engineer is to ensure the testing and commissioning activities for the building systems and process equipment is effectively planned, coordinated, and executed in accordance with the contract schedule and budget.
The Specifics of the Role
- Process Coordination: Lead the commissioning process for assigned projects, including planning, execution, and documentation. Ensure all activities align with project timelines and requirements.
- Startup Management: Oversee equipment startup, ensuring proper calibration, testing, and troubleshooting. Verify that all systems are functioning as designed.
- Equipment Knowledge: Utilize your deep understanding of equipment and machinery to guide the installation and commissioning process. Address technical issues and recommend solutions.
- Design Understanding: Collaborate with design engineers to ensure that installation and commissioning align with project specifications. Identify and resolve any discrepancies between design and actual installation.
- Quality Assurance: Implement quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations. Conduct inspections and audits to verify that installations meet industry and company standards.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of commissioning activities, test results, and any corrective actions taken. Prepare reports for internal stakeholders and clients as needed.
- Work alongside the client and/or General Contractor’s team in developing commissioning frameworks which align with the project objective.
- Lead the team onsite in the execution commissioning activities.
- Develop project specific commissioning management/validation documents and procedures.
- Lead project commissioning meetings and be confident in your delivery.
- Develop and prepare reports that include technical content, progress, and issues resolution.
- To provide technical commentary on drawings, manuals, and technical submittals.
- Assign tasks to other disciplines and manage their progress.
- Vendor coordination and management.
- Manage the process of QA/QC of MEP/Process equipment/start-up as needed with your team on projects.
- Execute test scripts to confirm MEP/Process equipment is functional as per design specification.
- Providing consultative advice to our clients in determining commissioning and validation requirements, commissioning strategies, methodologies, and the streamlining of commissioning activities.
- Awareness of scope change items and reports accordingly.
- General understanding of LEED/Green Star specifications and requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commissioning, startup, or a related role.
- Strong understanding of equipment and machinery, with hands-on experience in installation and commissioning.
- Knowledge of design principles and ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and clients.
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $100,000 - $160,000 +/- annually, based on qualifications, skills, training, experience, and location.
- Discretionary Annual Bonus: Subject to company performance and individual contribution.
