Senior Civil Engineer - Public Works

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc has full-time opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer - Public Works for our Denver, CO office. The candidate will have 8+ years of experience and will be a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Colorado with Public Works projects. Duties include but not limited to, initial project research, plan production and management of plan production staff, plan processing and management of plan processing efforts, construction administration and project close out efforts.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).

Duties:

  • Function as a Lead Civil Engineer within Public Works practices
  • Prepare preliminary engineering reports.
  • Research jurisdictional requirements for appropriate incorporation into design and construction drawings
  • Prepare proposal/contract and project work plans and schedule
  • Prepare design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and information obtained from research activities
  • Coordinate client management and marketing efforts for future work.
  • Prepare GIS exhibits.
  • Conduct site visits and document findings
  • Work directly with clients and direct a staff with varied levels of experience and expertise
  • Attend, record, and distribute meeting minutes and assist with general project correspondence
  • Write or prepare graphic materials for presentations or documents
  • Manage staff in hydrology and hydraulic, flood analysis, stormwater treatment, managing clients
  • Initiate and lead kickoff calls or high-level design calls with clients in addition to preparing monthly forecasting and client cost estimates when appropriate

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and follow comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensure proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Review project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Lead successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).
  • Contribute to successful delivery and performance of projects
  • Cultivate relationships with clients and maintain strong relationships with clients
  • Understand, follow, and enforce Huitt-Zollars' business process including weekly rhythm
  • Take active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assist and/or lead team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develop and/or execute project Win strategy.
  • Understand and follow HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensure quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Actively engage and participate in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff
  • Understand duties and responsibilities, possess necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintain job knowledge current.

Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Must be a licensed PE in Colorado with a minimum of 8+ years of experience
  • Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment and manage multiple projects with limited supervision
  • Must be able to work directly with clients and direct a staff with varied levels of experience and expertise.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to train staff and review work for quality assurance
  • Solid leadership and management skills, self-motivated, and possess a strong ability to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil3D.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Willingness/ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented
  • Consistently deliver proactive communication with clients. When client issues arise, address or expeditiously escalate to discipline lead
  • Develop relationships with clients that allow for ease in communications and problem solving
  • Troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions, effectively implement and document for internal and external stakeholders
