POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Fire Protection Designer will report to the Senior Fire Protection Project Manager and will be responsible for managing other fire protection designers. The role includes providing design of fire protection systems, performing hydraulic calculations, and producing construction documents. Responsibilities will include:

1. Supervise and assist other fire protection designers.
2. Prepare fire protection systems layout and detailed drawings.
3. Assist in the preparation of contract specifications.
4. Perform accurate design calculations including hydraulic calculations.
5. Coordinate work with internal and external stakeholders.
6. Review fire protection contractor shop drawings.
7. Perform field surveys and construction administration duties.
8. Provide technical information and assistance to project engineer and/or project manager.
9. Make recommendations on the feasibility of certain systems or equipment.
10. Coordinate system design with other disciplines, consultants, and utilities.
11. Perform site surveys and site observations.
12. Perform hydrant flow tests.
13. Respond to RFIs with the approval of the Project Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

1. NICET Certified Level III in Water-Based Systems Layout.
2. Minimum of five years of design experience.
3. Highly motivated, professional demeanor, and team-oriented.
4. Proficient and accurate data entry skills.
5. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
7. Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
8. Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and Structural Engineering construction practices.
9. Experience with Revit or HydraCAD for Revit.
10. Experience in a leadership or supervisory role.

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic travel.

Preferred:

1. Associate degree in Drafting and Design.
2. NICET Certified Level IV in Water-Based Systems Layout.
3. NICET Certified in Fire Alarm Systems and/or Special Hazards Suppression Systems.
4. Experience with SpecLink, HydraCAD/HydraCALC, and AutoSPRINK.

Working Conditions: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting/moving field testing equipment.
