A Week In The Life Of a Database Developer
- Attend daily standup with development and technical team
- Design, code, unit test stories and bugs for each sprint
- Plan database code and model changes, documenting the planned changes in design documents in the team’s Wiki.
- Design and modify database tables as needed to extend the existing MCC database model to support functional requirements. Where necessary, code data migration to support the data model changes.
- Write stored procedures and functions in T-SQL to implement business logic supporting the MCC web application.
- Unit test procedures and functions, and document results, to ensure the code is performing correctly.
- Evaluate stored procedure performance and ensure data integrity and security.
- Peer review team member designs and code.
- Write queries to support data requests from the government.
- Collaborate with UI and Java developers to create a full-stack solution.
- Use development tools for updating tasks and stories, check-in, and version control.
- Design solutions and collaborate with a team of highly skilled software developers and business analysts.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance analysts to ensure the software is functioning as required.
Job Requirements
- US Citizenship REQUIRED
- 6+ Years of experience in designing and developing database using MS SQL Server in an agile software development environment.
- Experience developing databases to support web applications with various languages/technologies including:
- SQL and T-SQL
- Writing complex queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers to support web-based multitier applications.
- Data modeling and database design.
- Performance tuning, troubleshooting and debugging.
- SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services).
- Understanding of best practices for database performance tuning and optimization.
- Knowledge of data warehouse concepts.
- Familiarity with SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio, Source Control Tools – TFS, GIT, SVN.
- Experience with object-oriented methodologies.
- Self-motivated to be successful in a dynamic environment with multiple parallel releases.
- Familiarity with web application/full stack development and languages such as:
- Java 8+/Spring Framework.
- REST APIs / Web Services.
- Angular.
- HTML.
- CSS.

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary/hourly range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
