Job Summary
Benjamin Moore has an opening for a Senior Commercialization Engineer in the Corporate Supply Chain group, based out of the Flanders NJ location. The Senior Commercialization Engineer is responsible for supporting New Products Introductions & Formula Optimization by providing the link between product development R&D and manufacturing. This position supports Benjamin Moore’s new product and product improvement pipelines and will report directly to the Director of Engineering.
The ideal candidate will have experience and a proven record of working cross-functionally and achieving results in commercializing high-performing customer-centric products. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who understands process operation, loves to work for hands-on with production equipment, and is a skilled communicator of engineering concepts to non-engineers. The ability to analyze the processes that affect the overall production cycle. Outstanding problem-solving ability and understanding of various processes in the manufacturing plant.
Responsibilities
- Well-rounded experience in commercialization and scale-ups in a liquid/batch processing environment.
- Lead new product and process implementation when products move past the R&D phase and are being scaled up at Benjamin Moore's manufacturing facilities
- Support new product development projects through R&D and commercial scale-up.
- Cultivate relationships with key personnel in Operations, Product Marketing, R&D, Corporate Engineering, and Procurement.
- Actively support ongoing and new technical projects. Lead coordination of commercialization master schedule and drive on-schedule / on specification scale-ups in support of new product/formula launches
- Development of standardized scale-up process tools & techniques. Drive consistent approach to scale-up.
- Use analytical tools to ensure lab formulations translate smoothly to production scale
- Develop a database of manufacturing capabilities & parameters across all sites
- Partner with R&D and Operations to clarify roles, success criteria, and methodology for the commercialization process.
- Develop proposals to improve the technology and tools used in the scale-up process
- Capture & communicate the learnings from commercialization / scale-up initiatives to drive organizational learning.
- Build & Share knowledge on the “science of scalability” at Benjamin Moore to add speed & agility to the commercialization process.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or chemistry; chemical or mechanical engineering required
- 7+ years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
- 5+ years of cross functional coordination, collaboration & leadership with R&D, Procurement, Marketing, Quality
- 5+ years of batch/liquid processing experience in an industrial setting preferred
- Direct experience successfully leading scale-up/commercialization projects from Bench/R&D though to large scale manufacturing.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently with strong project management skills
- Solid problem-solving skills; RCCA experience preferred
- Ability to translate complex technical needs into robust commercialization plans
- Leads individuals or project teams to achieve milestones and objectives by setting priorities and providing direction
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite & Minitab (or other statistical software packages)
- Strong ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels in the organization
- Ability and willingness to work in corporate, R&D, and production environment
- Travel required: ~35%
