Mechanical Engineer
CLYNK is a circular economy solutions provider. Our technology supports recycling at scale across an entire ecosystem including states with Deposit Recovery Systems (aka Bottle Bills) and Producer Responsibility Organizations or Brands who enable customers to recycle with convenient solutions.
Summary:
CLYNK is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Scotia, New York team. We are looking for a self-starter who thinks creatively and brings a standard of excellence, with at least two years of experience in mechanical systems engineering.
As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a significant role in improvement initiatives within the current CLYNK MRF plants and process framework. Your contributions will substantially impact the development of future redemption technology for CLYNK and our partners and customers.
The successful candidate will work within multi-discipline project teams on manufacturing and product design initiatives in our Materials Recycling Facilities (MRF). This individual will contribute to developing and validating manufacturing tools, equipment, and processes for high-volume processing plants. The candidate will collaborate closely with peers to understand the process, utility, and recycling technology design requirements and develop solutions tailored to the client's needs, from conceptual design through detailed engineering and start-up. This individual may be expected to support the installation activities of new equipment, improvements to existing equipment, and commissioning efforts therein. Must be flexible for up to 25% travel.
Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with operations personnel, seek to understand the issues facing them and help construct solutions to meet their near-term needs
  • Work alongside hardware, manufacturing, and software engineers to help drive our product offerings' growth
  • Design, test, and implement features critical to the success of CLYNK and its customers in gear systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, optical sensors, and electronics
  • Be a significant contributor to the mechanical design and fabrication of new products and solutions from inception through full rollout within CLYNK's multiple plants and customer sites
  • Design, test, and implement features critical to our customers' success using various technologies
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors
  • This individual will report directly to the Senior Director of Product Development
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrial Engineering.
  • 2-4 years experience in a manufacturing or processing environment. (Internships and Co-op time will count towards experience.)
  • Experience in CAD modeling (preferably SolidWorks), rapid prototyping, and standard fabrication processes and methodologies
  • Fundamentally strong understanding of GD&T methodologies and uses
  • Prior work experience with designing complex mechanical systems
  • Ability to utilize hand and power tools to build solutions and prototypes
  • Ability to tackle multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, & PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills, and work ethic
  • Self-motivated and team-oriented, able to work independently and within a team
  • Flexible attitude towards assignments, with the initiative and ability to regularly take on new projects and other challenges
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, as required, for customer site visits and regular working trips to CLYNK headquarters in South Portland, ME
Additional Qualifications:
  • Level of understanding and passion for renewable energy technologies
  • Ability to design and program electrical systems based on microcontrollers and Single Board computers
  • Ability to do programming in C++ and JAVA
  • Demonstrated understanding of Lean Manufacturing ideology, production metrics, and statistics
  • Ability to MIG and TIG weld
  • Ability to operate and work safely around machining equipment like lathes and mills
