AMERICAN CYBER SYSTEMS INC - Senior Manufacturing Controls Engineer

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah

Position Summary

The Sr. Automation / Controls Engineer has a leadership role providing solutions to complex problems, machine upgrades, creates machine specs, and outsources machine builds. A key player to support business unit needs with respect to data collection, scrap and MUV reduction, OEE and yield improvements.

Responsibilities:

  1. Experience with high volume fully automated production machines.
  2. Hands-on experience with machine design, machine fixture design, CAM driven machines, pneumatic actuators, servos, stepper motors, EFD dispensing valves, vision systems, sensors, sonic welding, pick-and-place mechanisms, pad printing, electrical test instruments, air-leak testers.
  3. Extensive experience with PLC (preferably Allen Bradley) control, HMI, I/Os.
  4. Experience with electrical hardware, schematics, and wiring.
  5. Networking and automatic data acquisition.
  6. Determine machine requirements, evaluate needs, and translate them into feasible and economical equipment solutions.
  7. Capable of performing reverse engineering, measuring and spec out tooling, and creating 3D models and 2D drawings. Must be proficient in SolidWorks.
  8. Provide knowledge on capabilities of key automation suppliers and providers of automation design and equipment manufacturing.
  9. Experience with lean manufacturing (yield improvements, machine uptime improvements, MUV/scrap reduction, changeover time reduction).
  10. Experience with process validation support IQ/OQ/PQ.
  11. Six-Sigma Methodology (DOE, Process Capability, Gage R&R, etc.).
  12. Diagnose and provide feedback for product nonconformance, CAPAs, and customer complaints.
  13. Direct experience required in formulating detailed project plans and managing activities/tasks and tracking progress electronically.
  14. Demonstrated ability to communicate concepts, challenges, and project plans to all levels of the organization.

Knowledge & Skills:

  1. Extensive experience using project and program planning tools and software packages to create, manage, and track project results.
  2. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  3. Demonstrated business acumen and successful experience managing all aspects of programs, including communicating with stakeholders and directing matrixed teams and resources.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Ability to effectively communicate program plans, proposals, and results.

Travel Requirements:

Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Work is performed in a clean room environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time; depending on the machine they are operating. The operator is required to use a computer or touch screen to accept work order data. Must be able to occasionally move and lift objects of up to 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  3. 7+ years of experience in a related field.
  4. This is largely a sedentary role.
  5. This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment with occasional work performed in a clean room environment.
  6. Must be able to occasionally move and lift objects of up to 25 pounds.
  7. Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.
