About BoostDraft
BoostDraft is a software engineering company that develops IDE for documents. It was founded by MIT and Stanford grad students, developing an assisted document editor for documents. It is a new document editor that employs error checking, reference checking and auto-completion using both rule-based approach and NLP, like what coding editors/IDE (e.g. VSCode, Pycharm) do. Background & Traction
We are currently focusing on Lawyers who draft relatively standardized but long documents, such as contracts. With only one year after our product launch, we already have more than 7,500 active paid users. We have several long-term, large-scale contracts with famed enterprises and law firms. As a result, we have been highly profitable from Day 1 and experienced exponential growth without outside funding at all. BoostDraft was accepted by prestigious accelerator program, MassChallenge (Top 30 US accelerator), StartX (Stanford Accelerator, 7% acceptance rate), MIT Sandbox (Accelerator of Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

As an engineering-first company, around 70% of our team members are software engineers with extensive experiences from companies such as Microsoft, IBM, HTC, Yahoo!, and R&D in NTT. Our CEO, Yohei, has proven experience in both Software Engineering and Business management, and has built an organization that values and empowers software engineers.

Technical challenges we solve

  • Performance improvement using both partial analysis and full analysis
  • Synchronization between user input and on-memory text
  • Cache efficiency to increase highlight performance during/after user input
  • Security preserving Natural Language Processing, such as Federated Learning

What’re your challenges

Responsibilities of Engineering Manager include:

  1. Being accountable for technical decisions that your team makes, by either making the decision by yourself or reviewing and approving the decisions made by your team members.
  2. Driving your team and project to maximize the outcome of the team in a timely manner under a very dynamic and agile environment.
  3. Growing your team members by giving them incrementally more challenging assignments and ongoing coaching.
  4. Create a psychologically safe environment across the company beyond your local team.

Requirements
At least three of the following:

  • Experienced in managing managers
  • Skilled in optimizing collaboration and operations by implementing engineering processes or tools
  • Experienced in assessing team members' performance in collaboration with executives and other managers, and determining their rewards, such as annual bonuses
  • Experienced in nurturing team members through effective coaching and mentoring support
  • Experienced in setting team priorities or project direction based on customer feedback and/or marketing data
  • Experienced in writing tech blogs for public audiences or conducting public speeches to share insights and expertise

In addition to the above, we expect successful candidates to meet the following qualifications:

  • Experience managing engineering teams of 5 or more people.
  • Fluent in coding with either C#, C++, Java or Rust
  • Business level English
  • Passion to create a psychologically safe environment.
  • Communication skill to clearly convey your idea to others.

Preferred qualifications
Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field.
Ability to understand both the customer's and engineer's point of view.
Fluency in Japanese.
