About the Team
The TikTok Social team drives significant user engagement and retention wins through fun, innovative, and technically sophisticated products and features. We move fast, with precision, and consistently execute with privacy at the forefront.
The Social Interaction team focuses on building a reliable and adaptive platform that enables users to meet and interact with their real-life friends seamlessly on TikTok, encouraging them to share their life moments and stay connected regardless of location. Some core features and components we build and maintain include Story, Video Like, Comment, Friends Tab, Inbox Tab, Repost, TikTok Now feature, and standalone app. We seek talented individuals who enjoy the intersection of product, data, design, and engineering. As a Social team member, you'll help us improve the TikTok social experience and bring joy to hundreds of millions of users every day.

As a Backend Engineer on the Social Interaction team, you will:

1. Develop business-critical systems and features that power TikTok social experiences.
2. Improve system design and architecture to ensure high stability and performance of the services.
3. Collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality work in rapid product development.
4. Promote robust and maintainable code, clear documentation, and deliver high-quality work on a tight schedule.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
2. 3+ years of backend development experience.
3. Experience in building backend services for large-scale consumer-facing applications.
4. Proficient in at least one of the following languages: Go, Java, C++, Python.
5. Deep understanding of computer architectures, data structures, and algorithms.
6. Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Job Information:
Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $145,000 - $250,000 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
