Software Engineer IV

Forrest T. Jones & Company, Inc., and its affiliates (“FTJ”), provide insurance and insurance related services to clients, corporations, employers and individuals. These services include providing benefits through innovative life and health insurance plans, financial services, and customized insurance products for niche markets.

Position Summary

The Software Engineer is responsible for designing reporting and data integration processes using SQL, MS SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). The position will also entail some API work that will integrate with SQL objects. This role will partner with other team members and business stakeholders to deliver reporting and analytical solutions.

Expectations

1. Analyze, define, and document system requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, interfaces with other systems, auditing, reporting requirements, and production configuration
2. Enforce uniform adherence to established standards and procedures for the department. Review documentation submitted by programmers to ensure conformity to standards.
3. Ensure that each data flow has robust audit, data validation, error handling, monitoring and reporting steps to ensure accuracy and completeness of loaded data at all times
4. Provide accurate effort estimates to the Team Lead and/or Project Manager and project teams as appropriate
5. Deliver testing support including the design and execution and documentation of test scripts
6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Competencies

1. Skills and hands-on experience of the following
1. SQL (Microsoft SQL Server) including experience with CTE’s and temporal tables
2. SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
3. SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
2. The ability to work accurately and diligently under pressure, on multiple projects within your project timeframes
3. Experience documenting and following specifications and challenging business logic where appropriate
4. Experience with application development using C# or .NET
5. Experience writing/debugging APIs
6. Experience with Power BI is a plus
7. Experience with the Insurance industry is a plus
8. Microsoft certifications related to SQL Server and Data are a plus
9. Understanding of Accounting is a plus

Requisites

1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in the data warehouse field
2. SQL development in SQL Server 2014 and above – 5 to 8 years
3. SSRS reports in SQL Server 2014 and above – 5 to 8 years
4. SSIS development in SQL Server 2014 and above – 5 to 8 years
5. Developing data integration and ETL solutions – 5 to 8 years
6. C# – 1+ year
7. .NET – 1+ year
8. APIs and Web services – 1+ year
9. Great understanding of databases and data processing
10. General knowledge of SCRUM methodology
11. Good understanding of business requirements gathering and documentation solutions with personalized expertise and responsiveness
