The Automation Engineer plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems that improve the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of energy production and water/wastewater treatment processes.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams to develop advanced control systems, optimize operations, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards in the Energy and Water/Wastewater industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Implementation:
  • Develop and implement automation solutions for energy production facilities, water treatment plants, and wastewater management systems.
  • Design and program PLCs, SCADA systems, DCS, and HMI for monitoring and controlling various processes in energy and water/wastewater operations.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, wiring diagrams, and system architecture.
  • System Integration:
  • Integrate automation systems with existing infrastructure and ensure compatibility with various process equipment and control platforms.
  • Collaborate with IT, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth integration and reliable operation of automation systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to automation systems, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous operations.
  • Optimization and Maintenance:
  • Monitor and analyze automation system performance, identifying opportunities for optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Implement preventive maintenance strategies to ensure the long-term reliability of automation systems.
  • Provide technical support and training to operators and maintenance personnel on system use and best practices.
  • Project Management:
  • Lead automation projects from initial concept through to final implementation, including budget management, scheduling, and resource coordination.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, environmental specialists, and regulatory compliance teams, to achieve project objectives.
  • Compliance and Safety:
  • Ensure that all automation solutions adhere to regulatory standards, including environmental, health, and safety regulations specific to energy and water/wastewater sectors.
  • Participate in safety assessments, risk evaluations, and compliance audits.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in automation engineering, preferably in the energy or water/wastewater industry.
  • Professional Engineering(P.E.) License strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, SCADA systems, DCS, and HMI development.
  • Strong understanding of process control, instrumentation, and industrial networking.
  • Experience in managing automation projects, including budget and schedule management.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations, such as NEC, ISA, and EPA guidelines.
