Job Description:
The Department of Justice, Division of Child Support,, is looking for experienced Software Developers to join our Child Support Technology Team as a Business Intelligence / ETL Cognos Developer (Information Systems Specialist 7). This role will support team members and project groups throughout DCS in the creation, maintenance of cost-effective and timely business solutions for large systems that are complex, working with internal and external partners. This role is responsible for the software develop of the reporting systems utilized by the program research analysts. As a mentor to junior team members, you will help us to develop and build our diverse work family.
This position will require on-call and after hours support of the Origin batch process as it pertains to ETL and report processing.

Six (6) years of information systems experience with ETL and Business Intelligence development, implementation, and support. Education will be counted as experience if degree is in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or if a two (2) year accredited vocational training program was completed in information technology or related field. Work experience is based on a 40-hour work week. (Example: 20 hours a week for one year would equal six-months of work experience.)Associate's Degree (or 2-year vocational training) = Two (2) Years

  • DataStage/ ETL Developer with strong SQL skills
  • Practical experience using Cognos
  • Strong data warehousing knowledge
  • Ability to review and understand complex database structures and SQL code
  • Experience participating in Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) activities, including requirements, design, development, unit/regression testing, deployment, and maintenance.

WHAT YOU WILL DO (in part)
  • Develop, design, and maintain DataStage ETL jobs
  • Perform root cause analysis and address existing issues
  • Programs involve the use of SQL, DB2, Infosphere Information Server
  • Use of Cognos software for developing reports based on business needs.
  • Perform system analysis to support current and future business needs.
  • Work with internal and external partners to determine the best solution for enhancing the system and its interfaces.
  • Create program specifications, detailed program design and operational documentation.
  • Write new programs and maintains/modifies existing programs using relational databases maintaining data integrity which may change or re-engineer a business process.
  • Adhere to Child Support Technology Services standards and version controls.
  • Analyze performance issues and develop, test and implement resolutions.
  • Respond to non-critical system stoppages, which may or may not include internal and external partner agencies.
  • Provide solutions to the issues based on the time criticality of the normal operation of the system. Areas may include: revenue being tracked or lost; regulatory requirements being met; issues where public safety is involved.
  • Diagnose and resolve system issues referred directly from the customer.
  • Work closely with the customer in defining detailed system requirements and design.
  • Obtain customer sign-off at each phase indicating the customer understands requirements and design, inputs, outputs, reporting formats and contents, processing functions and other requirements dependent on specific system functionality.
  • Remain familiar with state-of-the-art tools within the organization and utilizing these tools for enhancements, resolving issues, and addressing the distributed needs of the agency.
  • Ensure version compatibility between new releases that support the distributed needs of the system which may also impact partner agencies.
  • Evaluate performance and resource competition issues, resolve and coordinate solutions.
  • Create necessary documentation per IT shop standards, ensuring design and implementation conform to policy.
  • Evaluates and tests new products are compatible with existing internal and external systems.
  • Perform batch cycle support for reporting which may include after hours or shift modifications in order to support the Origin System as it pertains to ETL and reporting.
  • Other duties in part include the construction, customer service, and operations of data.
  • Mentor junior-level developers to diagnose and solve system related problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
