Position Summary

GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.

Position Description

Our Sr. Staff Engineer works with Staff and Sr. Engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve, and enhance existing systems and identify new opportunities to apply their knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in their domain.

Position Responsibilities

As a Sr. Staff Engineer, you will:

  1. Focus on multiple areas and provide technical leadership to the enterprise
  2. Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems
  3. Develop and execute technical software development strategy for a variety of domains
  4. Accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions
  5. Utilize programming languages like Python, C# or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services
  6. Mentor and help coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community
  7. Influence and educate leadership at all levels
  8. Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
  9. Analyze cost and forecast, incorporating them into business plans
  10. Determine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes to ensure desired results, demonstrate adaptability and sponsor continuous learning

Qualifications

  1. Fluency and specialization with at least two modern languages such as Java, C++, Python or C# including object-oriented design
  2. Experience building products of micro-services oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs
  3. Experience building the architecture and design of new and current systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling)
  4. Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code
  5. Fluency in DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture and Azure DevOps Operational Framework
  6. Experience in leveraging PowerShell scripting
  7. Experience in existing operational portals such as Azure Portal
  8. Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments
  9. Experience in Datacenter structure, capabilities, and offerings, including the Azure platform and its native services
  10. Experience in security protocols and products: understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth
  11. Experience in Azure Network (subscription, security zoning, etc.)
  12. In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms
  13. Experience with solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches
  14. Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
  15. Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)
  16. Exemplary ability to design, perform experiments, and influence engineering direction and product roadmap
  17. Experience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to production
  18. Track-record of publications history in credible conferences and journals
  19. Experience with Salesforce service cloud development environment including but not limited to items such as custom objects, declarative functionality, workflows, triggers, Visual Force, migration tools, and SOQL

Experience

  1. 12+ years of professional software development experience on an enterprise Salesforce platform (Financial Services Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Sales Cloud, or Service Cloud)
  2. 10+ years of experience with architecture and design
  3. 6+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
  4. 6+ years of experience in open-source frameworks

Education

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience

Annual Salary

$120,000.00 - $300,500.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
