Swope Design Solutions is a rapidly growing mechanical engineering and product design firm located in the San Francisco Bay Area that specializes in consumer products, medical devices, and robotics. From napkin sketches to high-volume production, we have expertise in all areas of product development.  We utilize our in-house machine shop capabilities to create an ideal problem solving environment for our team. Our design and rapid prototyping process strikes the perfect balance that allows us to quickly arrive at solutions. This enables our engineers to efficiently converge on solutions to our client’s biggest problems.  


We are looking for an exceptional Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. You will be responsible for working with our clients to step their products from early stage prototypes up to full scale production. We pride ourselves on our ability to learn quickly and adapt to the particular challenges a new project can bring. The skills below provide a strong base to succeed in our world.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Design & Engineering (Expert to Master Level): 

  • Use SolidWorks Software to design functional parts and assemblies
  • Master Modeling, surfacing, and sheet metal techniques
  • SolidWorks Workgroup PDM
  • Complex assemblies,  BOM management, and 2D drawings per ASME Y14.5.
  • Be proficient with manufacturing and prototyping tools such as manual mills, lathes, and 3D printers
  • Use HSMWorks to safely create parts on CNC mills
  • Use best engineering practice and judgment to develop system-level solutions for our clients
  • Collaborate with our team and the client to generate conceptual solutions
  • Prove out concepts with mathematical simulation or quick physical prototypes
  • Refine designs into comprehensive CAD structures
  • Build up and manage system level BoMs
  • Create and update product requirements
  • Write and execute test protocols and reports. Analyze data.
  • Integrate electronics, firmware, software, industrial design, and user experience requirements 
  • Supervise the build process
  • Identify key component suppliers. Manage all orders and vendor relationships.
  • Help assemble and deliver finished systems, including training and hands on fabrication
  • Design and build assembly and test fixtures
  • Take the design to production
  • Produce production level drawings and process instructions, including inspection
  • Implement system part numbers, design revisions, and engineering controls
  • Aid in researching and providing necessary commercial or regulatory certifications
  • Design for manufacturing and assembly. Tolerance analysis.
  • Failure mode and effect analysis/Verification and validation
  • Manage manufacturing partners. Confirm manufacturing capability, cycle time, and line yield.


Task Management

  • A self-starter who generates and manages project timelines and budgets
  • Ability to juggle multiple clients and projects and manage a project from start to finish


Other Duties

  • Effectively manage 2-10 people, including vendors, employees, interns, client employees, and others.
  • Research new technologies and systems that could help provide a competitive edge to future work
  • Lead proactive, professional client communication regarding design decisions and technical details
  • Quote/Proposal writing with project specifications, timeline, and budget estimates


QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related fields from an accredited university
  • 5-10 years of relevant job experience
  • 10,000+ hours with SolidWorks


BONUS QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working within medical device regulation
