Role Overview
As a Lead Software Engineer at MediaAlpha, you will be a key member of the engineering leadership. You will be accountable and responsible for multiple key systems, owning the strategy, architecture, design and implementation. You will collaborate with peer leads, work alongside our business partners and lead engineers to define roadmaps and deliver on our strategic vision. You will work with peers and leadership to define and drive best practices, refine our SDLC, improve our eco-system (infrastructure, toolsets, processes, etc) and uplift our engineering organization. The ideal candidate is someone who is a masterful engineer, works well across organizational boundaries, is a mentor and leader to other engineers and improves the conditions of any area they are in. We are an intentionally small organization, designed for agility, speed and workability and 'Lead Software Engineers' are at the heart of our organization.
Responsibilities
- Own the full software development lifecycle of implementing high-performance ad serving software.
- Design, implement, and scale systems that process tens of thousands of high-value transactions a day, while also producing elegant and readable code.
- Integrate our products with our partners.
- Produce elegant and readable Perl code in a Linux environment, on Amazon EC2, leveraging also S3, CloudFront and Route 53.
- Work as a leader of the organization, jumping in to help out and resolve complex issues, support the other engineers and ensure a smooth operating environment.
- Be part of a leader in the organization that maintains and supports our live MediaAlpha Exchange product.
- Work directly with stakeholders in defining our MediaAlpha Exchange Product and developing and testing new features and integrations.
Requirements
- 7+ years experience in software development.
- Strong programming skills including software engineering methodologies and best practices.
- Strong SQL skills and understanding of database and query optimizations.
- Ability to quickly get up to speed on our technology platform (perl) development experience in Unix/Linux operating environments.
- Ability to write elegant and readable code.
- Be a champion of instilling excellence in coding and quality into the team and culture.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity and ability to problem solve while paying careful attention to detail.
- Experience working with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to articulate and communicate clearly, concisely, and thoughtfully.
- Organized and self-motivated.
- B.S. required, preferably in a technical discipline (e.g., computer science).
Compensation & Benefits
