Position: Project Engineer, NPD

Work Location: Marlborough, MA. Hybrid (work 3 days onsite)

What you will be doing:

The Project Engineer is a hybrid position combining Engineering and Project Management abilities. The primary responsibility is to deliver innovative electromechanical consumer products and bring them from initial concept through to production.

This position works with a global multi-functional New Product Development team (US, Mexico, China, and UK) while working closely with Industrial Designers and Product Managers to understand the market needs and deliver market leading product designs that balance costs, schedule, performance and reliability.

  • Interpret feedback from product marketing and consumer research to develop a clear design specification.
  • Work with APO (Asia Pacific Organization) team to lead the OEMs through the detailed design, evaluation, pilot builds, reliability testing, agency testing and product launch.
  • Collaborating with the Quality team, supports DFMEA and Safety reviews.
  • Collaboration with the compliance team, support all compliance testing efforts.
  • Work with the legal team to ensure all products follow the patent review and clearance process.
  • Apply engineering practices based on test and theory to provide design direction.
  • Organize and facilitate technical product design reviews.
  • Develop Value Analysis/Cost Analysis and quality improvements opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive schedule to deliver projects on-time and on budget.
  • Handle overseas resources to meet all cost, schedule, reliability, performance, and agency requirements.
  • Work with Engineering Director to report project status to management team.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings to maintain forward progress.
  • Use Creo (Pro-E) software along with prototyping skills.
  • Create breadboard models and refine proof of concept prototypes.
  • Test and troubleshoot in the lab.
  • Collaborate with Industrial Design and Marketing Team.
  • Study driven products to benchmark against new product designs.

Skills needed to be successful in this role:

  • Ability to work in a fast paced and constantly evolving environment.
  • Hands on fabrication and prototyping skills.
  • Basic understanding of mold flow simulation and consumer appliance manufacturing processes.
  • Solid experience reading, understanding, and working with intellectual property matters.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with product and feature based cost analysis, and estimation.
  • Demonstrated strong ability to convey technical concepts effectively.
  • Creative yet practical in problem solving.
  • Positive approach; strong team player; strong work ethic; high integrity; self-motivation and committed to results.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant Mechanical Engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years in related experience in a consumer product development or high-volume consumable manufacturing environment.
  • Some background in electromechanical product design and consumer product testing.
  • Experience using Pro-Engineer (Creo) to design consumer appliances.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel both internationally and domestically up to 5-10%.
  • Requires a flexible work schedule.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
