The AWS Enterprise Networking organization is looking for a System Development Engineer to join our Core Service Automation team. In this role you will work hand-in-hand with System Development teams, Frontend Engineering teams, and Network Engineering teams to drive stability, consistency, and sustainability of the network while never losing sight of the high security bar our customer’s demand. You’ll apply your large-scale understanding of computing solutions to write code and manage services that delight our customers.

AWS Global Connectivity and Network Availability (GCNA) is the backbone that connects the global AWS network. Focused on controlling the internet traffic that allows users to access their information and applications regardless of where they are in the world. GCNA is responsible for building and designing a complex backbone network that allows internet traffic to flow efficiently between data centers and customers.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. Key job responsibilities

You will be responsible for the design, implementation and quality of services you deliver. Your experience working in a systems development or in an enterprise environment will help us implement automated solutions across a variety of applications and systems.

You’ll also:

  1. Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.
  2. Write high quality distributed system software.
  3. Work in an agile, startup-like development environment, where you are always working on the most important stuff.
  4. Work closely with our Network/Systems/Software Engineering teams to ensure fast and smooth roll-out of new designs and products, as well as assist with deployment and sustaining of networking software tools.
  5. Use data to measure success and take responsibility for the quality of your service and, regardless of their source, strive to prevent faults from impacting your customers.
  6. Use your strong problem-solving skills, ability to understand and scope solutions, work across teams to drive solutions.
  7. Contribute to documentation of process and procedures.
  8. Learn from others and help grow those in your team to achieve their best.
  9. Take ownership, consider tradeoffs and lean on your expertise to ensure the job gets done.
  10. Participate in an on-call rotation with your team.

A day in the life

Engineers in the Backbone Enterprise and Regional Engineering (BERE) organization have a wide range of responsibilities; we work with internal partners to develop and implement the next-generation platforms along with the tooling ecosystems to support these platforms driving efficiency and scalability through the automation of builds, configuration deployment, and the scaling of capacity. As our network is one of the largest in the world, there is no blueprint allowing our engineers to develop solutions to complex challenges that we face daily.

About the team

The Core Service Automation team is responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of the DHCP and DNS systems that provide service to all Amazon data centers and offices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 3+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with distributed systems at scale
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure
