Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance: This role is part of the Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance team. This team is focused on monitoring and assessing processes that guide Blue Origin's design, manufacturing, and operations, ensuring system safety engineering, environmental health, and safety, product integrity, and continuous improvement processes.

As a System Safety Engineer at Blue Origin, you will work with systems engineering teams to generate and verify compliance with safety and reliability requirements. You will help engineers identify areas of opportunity for design improvements, minimize risk to people and property, and increase the probability of mission success. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Partner with systems engineering teams to generate and verify compliance with safety and reliability requirements.
  • Support engineering teams in identifying areas of opportunity for design improvements, minimize risk to people and property, and increase the probability of mission success.
  • Establish safety and reliability plans for new programs.
  • Participate in gated reviews to communicate safety and reliability analyses.
  • Guide and support programs in Certification efforts when applicable.
  • Perform system safety and reliability analyses such as FMECA, PFMEA, Fault Trees, Functional Hazard Assessments, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in aerospace engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience in aerospace and/or aviation manufacturing.
  • Experience with performing safety analyses including Hazard Analysis, FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis, and Human Error Assessments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fluid schematics, and electrical circuit diagrams.
  • Ability to generate metrics and report on program system safety status.
  • Strong safety and mission assurance fundamentals.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate technical information to non-technical partners.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing system safety and/or reliability analyses on satellites or human-rated in-space systems.
  • Experience performing compliance assessment of system safety processes and products against external standards including Range Safety, NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, or ARP-4761.
  • Experience with certification of human-rated space systems.
  • Process ownership and maintenance experience.

Compensation

Compensation range for on-site WA and CA applicants is $96,480-$134,072. Other site ranges may differ.
